    pushing just subs though almost any amp will work....its only bass. if it were any of the other speakers id look for a better amp. i think that would have been a decent trade if it were local.

            There is no audible advantage to these shapes, and they may carry some distortion penalties. They can, in some situations (limited mounting space, for instance) give a slightly greater cone area and so slightly higher output at low frequencies. The intent of non-round subwoofers is to increase the surface area of the cone. In enclosures of a particular size, more subwoofer cone area is possible with some of these shapes, although the difference may be trivial. The increased cone area moves more air, producing higher sound pressure levels. However, these drivers are not optimized for maximum output level, so the advantage is largely theoretical. The effect of corners in their surrounds is to increase distortion.

              yes but the larger surface area creates better sound at lower frequency's which is deeper hitting bass

                The square maybe louder, but sacrifices SQ

                    4got to mention it always determines the size of the box

                    Sealed,Ported,

                    The ported will have greater low frequency output down to the tuning, but a sealed with a decent Qtc will have greater low frequency extension (i.e. sealed can play lower than a ported box, but down around the tuning frequency the ported will have greater output).

                    Also a good time to mention Hoffman's Iron Law:

                    You can only have two of the following three at any one time;

                    1) Small Box
                    2) High Efficiency
                    3) Low frequency extension

                    If you want any two of them, then you must sacrifice the third.

                      when you looking into subs, look at things such as db sensitivity, xmax, rms wattage, size, box required volume, does the sub have to be ported or sealed, and it's frequency range. My friend had L7's and he blew them using the rms wattage 3 times, and then the last set he has is sitting at his house with a 1200 watt kicker amp that i'm taking off of his hands. I did some research and found another company not to familiar around here, but is very common in bass comps, and the audio world. www.reaudio.com. Their prices are very competitive, and they make subs that are sql(sound quality loud) I bought the sx15 model, and it's only rated for 2000 watts max, i pushed 2500 too it and it didn't even blink. JL audio does make amaizing quality speakers, but the price is a little high.

                        This whole debate about Square, round, octangular, naked lady shaped subs is fun. I mean, sure, the squares have more area, but really, what it comes down to is being different. Round subs can be considered "boring", so someone makes an Octangular or Square Sub. What we really need is pornstar shaped subs - since those would be "fun".

                        Anyways, for subs, my dad (who did car stereo for roughly 25 years - then moving to home stereo (and phone, data, cable, etc - hang Tvs and such) about 18 years ago, and still doing it) stands by JL as having the best subs. He also mentions MTX, Kicker and Boston as having good subs as well.

                        He has twin Kicker 6" subs in his truck with a 6-channel ADS Amp and Alpine Headunit - they produce incredibly clear bass - and produce some kick as well (so what if they're behind the seats - he has an E-150 work van).

                        I have a single 10" MTX, and it isn't as clear as my dad's Kickers, but it's also 200% over powered, so on some songs, I can't quite turn it up as loud as I want.

                        Eventually I plan on two JL 10" in the back.
