Ive been wanting one of these bad boys since the day i bought the car two years ago.

its a VFN fiberglass replica. I had originally planned to get an OEM unit, but this one came up locally, and it passed my inspection in person. the biggest problem i had was with the bolts... the bolts that were in the stock hood were too long for the thread-ins on the fiberglass hood. in my ignorance i ended up breaking one of the thread ins on the hood latch... and the bolt is stuck halfway in. Ive got a possible remedy in mind, fingers are crossed. The other problem i had was that the side edges of the hood towards the back hit the part of the hood mount attached to the fender... i had to file the edge down to close it. the only part that is misaligned right now is the corner closest to the driver... its sitting about a half inch too high when closed. I think some more filing will remedy it, but im not sure. those exceptions aside the hood lined up perfectly. the gap is a little more than average all the way around, but its nothing worth fretting about. I cant wait for the paint

one question for people familiar with fiberglass:

I have noticed that the one way to tell a replica from an OEM unit is the edge above the headlight pockets. a fiberglass hood has a 3/4" edge there, whereas a stock hood comes to a complete "point" and there is no flat surface to the edge whatsoever. ( I cant think of a better way to word that.) my question is, if i were to gently sand that edge down to say 1/4", would the hood lose a significant ammount of integrity? My guess is that it wouldnt, but its not worth the thing cracking on me.

the entire edge that goes all the way around the hood hangs down 3/4 of an an inch and it is about 1/4" thick. Its hard to explain without a picture of that specific area i guess. from the above picture it looks like the entire hood is 3/4" thick all the way through, but it isnt. its just that edge that hangs down.
Its the exact same edge i had to file away up by the hood mount. I did that because i had to in order for it to fit. Id say i filed a good 1/2" into that edge.
I guess an easy way to describe it would be this: If the hood were made out of something stronger than fiberglass, i would be able to reach into the headlight pocket and pull the car forward gripping on that edge like a handle. Did that help give you a better idea, or am I the idiot who isnt understanding what you said?

It sounds like you are saying that the front of it to so long they just curved it down blocking the latch for you to open the hood

What you're trying to say is that the leading edge of the hood where the headlights are is like our fenders... there's a 90 degree bend and it's L shaped, the bottom of the "L" being the front edge of the hood that you see. You want to shave the bottom of the "L" off so it's "|" and flat (IE if someone rolls their fenders) Right?

Looked obvious to me just lookin at the pic, not to make you more critical of the hood, but it just looked "thick" when I looked at the edge where the headlights were, that's how I knew what you were talking about lol

thanks brian... i looked at a couple pics of your hood up close. It looks like youve got about a 3/8" edge to yours. Not quite sharp as stock, but a huge improvement over mine, which is probably closer to 1" than it is 3/4" like i have been saying.
