alright all

i just got my new rims(chrome z06) , and want to redo my calipers, they are red now, with black vinyl camaro lettering, but they are crappy looking cause i did it too fast. Now I am debating weather to redo them red or not....

Im going to sand them down for sure and do it right

Ive seen this a few places too, but i can get powdercoating done for about free at my dads work, so i can do any color with that too, even a chrome looking color.....do you think this would be a good idea??? or just paint, doesnt really matter, just an idea

Just curious what you guys think looks good, cause i was thinking about doing silver with black or chrome letters, or even do black with silver or chrome letters. blue?? I am thinking this because i dont have anything red on my car so it looks wierd.

I'd definately get them powdercoated if you can have it done for free. I'll look better and last longer than paint. If you have an accent color on your car, inside or underhood, I'd go with that. I'm not big on the red calipers just for the sake of painting them red because that's what Baer and some other brake companies have. I did mine in silver so the blend in some and doing them in white was out of the question as they'd always be dirty!

Agreed, Paint the theamed color of your car. I dont like red just to make them stand out. Painting mine silver because all the accients on my car are silver

Tough call. Mine are red, but that's my accent. Chrome/silver may be the way to go. Black would be clean, but boring.
Definitely go powder coat if available. Make sure you mask the mounting surfaces, especially on the bracket bolt mounting faces.

I went with red on my car only to add a splash of color and to make them stand out (ie LS1 brakes on a 3rd gen) to my all white car. Out of any color, I like red the best. Go black if you want them to disappear and for the ultimate look.....polish them. If I ever get the time to do mine over again, I am going the polish route to match my wheels.

Ive been planning on doing mine also. I think Im going to have mine done silver/polished or black with "FORMULA" decals. red isnt my thing, i like the black/chrome thing. still waiting to see pics of the new wheels, lol......

well i got them off tonight and got a little wire wheel ot clean them up, and also grinded them down so they are smooth- still more to do- and sanded a little.....

now im wondering to powdersoat them, or just keep sanding and polish them??? anyone wanna jump in...the only thing is that the back ones im not going to polish cause it would take years. And i am onlny going to polish what you can directly see with the eye, and eith powdercoat, or paint the rest

powdercoat, i would stay with the black/silver combo. my 2cents.

An idea my buddy told me about was to have the caliper painted/powdercoated the color you want your letters, then put the decals on once its dry. Now paint it again the color you want the caliper let it dry then pull the decals off. so you get painted letters you dont have to woryy about coming off.

well ive decided what im going to do. Im not going to powdercoat them, because i dont feel like taking the whole calliper apart, because it cant go in the oven at about 400 degrees with the rubber and stuff. So im going to paint them. I thought about polishing them, but i dont like the thought of upkeeping them llooking good because i drive it daily.

Im going to paint them gloss black, and get some chrome decals. Im going to paint the pad silver though to add a little look.

The rears will just be black.

Im getting my rotors turned tommorow, because i have them all off, and my dads going to powercoat them (not the part the pad touched) a gloss black, just to get rid of the rust look. I was going to get some slotted and drilled rotors, and still might if the tolerances are too small on the ones i have now

Oh man...you have it this far apart, you REALLY should powder coat them. It's so simple to blow these calipers apart, especially if you have access to compressed air. Just take a small chunk of a 2x4 and place it in the caliper where the pads/rotor reside....now take a blowgun with a rubber tip and blow into the brake line port...pop and they are apart! Just make sure your fingers aren't in the way when you hit the trigger on the blowgun
