    New paint color

Once I got over the fact that my car was going to be parked for a few weeks I began sanding and stripping paint off the car.

Decided to chemically strip the bumpers because if cracking in the paint in hopes that it was only on the paint and not the part itself. Luckily for me it was just the paint.

Then shot the expoxy primer over the metal work and very little plastic filler to make everything smooth and flat.

I have one or two days worth of work to finish before I start to paints the jams. The quarters are going to get blocked then the car will get a coat of sealer to await the base clear.

Are you painting it there in the garage? I know primer is ok but painting it without a fan would be kinda tough. lookin good so far though! I also wanted to ask you about the stripper you used on the fascia. What brand etc. The only time I ever tried to do that, the stripper softened the rubber so much that it was no longer usable. A plastic putty knife would take gouges out of it.

oh, the color, is that purple? looks purple on my monitor.

some of my cleanest work came from the garage. Even spray booths are very dirty. Aircraft stripper also called that is the best chemical stripper I have used, not sure if he used the same stuff, but it works very well.

Color looks to be a midnight purple metallic

edit: what products are you spraying? Have you been to Wiltse's Automotive in Waterford?

I live 6 doors down from Wiltse. I'm using PPG base coat PPG DC4000 for the outside body and DC2000 for jams; deep purple tone and flops over to a dark teal/midnight blue. It's a really cool color. The stripper that I used was Rustoleum automotive stripper. It only took off the base clear in most spots and in other spots it left some base leaving the bumpers solid. I'm only priming and cutting in the jams in my garage. Then taking it to my buddies shop to paint the body. I'll probably end up painting the engine bay in the garage as well after the car is back home.

I agree painting in a garage is giving me cleaner results than the booths at work. I didn't sweep or water the ground around the car and I have no dirt anywhere on the car.

Yeah, Aircraft Stripper....My fingers tingle and burn at the mere mention of the name. I had the pleasure of stripping a 4 layer paint job off of a 69 vette back in my younger days.

Good luck with the paint job, looking good so far. Excellent choice in color If I may say so. lol

Thanks I appreciate it. I had a couple days that the car was torn down and I didn't feel like working on it and motivation was completely gone lol. But nothing a couple gun hoe buddies and beer couldn't fix. I love the navy blue metallic but I like to be different so a new color that wasn't factory was needed.

That stripper per was some nasty stuff to work with. Soon as I spread it on you could see it darn near bubble up immediately. Double gloves and long handled brushes is the only way to go.

I wish wish I could do more business with those guys because they're so close to me and like you said they are very nice and willing to help guys. But I still after 5yrs get a school discount with Painters Supply and a basic body shop discount at GNE because of where I work. Hard to compete with a discount.

Thanks for for all the comments and questions guys!
