  • Question about 97 SS Hood

Can anyone please tell me how to tell if the "FACTORY" SS hood I just purchased is actually a factory hood? I have looked everywhere and can't find any markings on it.
    Thanks,
    Stephen

Should have MADE IN CANADA in two locations on the underside.

If you got it cheap then I'd expect it to be aftermarket. Original SLP hoods are worth a big chunk of change

Ok Joelius, I will do. I can tell you that it has a closed scoop vent meaning it just has a solid grill and not open on the bottom. I have looked all over it and seen nothing stamped that I can see. I only gave $375 for it so it's no biggie....fits perfect, in perfect condition and feels solid.
        Thanks,
        Stephen

I have a 97ss camaro my hood is open and functional. Seems like to me a factory ss hood would only come this way.

Yeh, ah, that's what I was thinking also but for $375 and it fits like a glove it's worth it to me. Besides, it will be functional when I'm finished with it lol....Thanks mazakman.....!
            Thanks,

Wrong, the aftermarket hoods are functional as well.

I think he meant that a factory ss hood would only be configured that way, not the only one that is... Meaning the op's hood is aftermarket

Still waiting on pictures either way though

i'd have to see it in person to say for sure, but i think that is an OEM hood. All the dimensions appear to be correct. I can say with 100% confidence it isnt a glasstek or RK Sport which are the two most common knockoffs (ive got a glasstek on mine).

Another clue would be if you were able to use the same bolts for the hinges and the lift shocks. (i couldnt)

Pretty sure it wouldn't be closed behind grill if it was an OEM

That piece is interchangeable, but i cant say ive seen a 100% closed one before.

I'd put my money on this being an OEM hood based on the info we have so far.
