  • faded cowl plastics...

the faded look gets annoying. I've used turtle wax ice liquid polish before and it works, but it doesn't last long.

what's the best lasting (cheap) way to get them dark again?

It's going to be hard to do after slathering a bunch of products on it, but I saw someone who used a bunch of degreaser and such and then painted his cowl trim black. It looked amazing.

Refinish Restorer. I have had this stuff on my 95's cowl for 2yrs. Still looks good. Bought it to do my avalanche...works good on that too

heat gun - you can briefly melt the surface of the plastic to make it shine again.

This. Best of all it's free if you have a heat gun.

I pulled mine off and spray painted them
Black, then cleared them with semi-gloss clear coat. I was very pleased with the outcome.

I would say this is the best way to "restore" them, after a good bath with some TSP.

The ice polish works good for a little while. If you want that dark color permanently, painting them would be the way to go.

I used matrix bumper/trim paint on my car.

alright so I used some foaming engine degreaser that I had laying around the other day and it worked pretty well. I am considering doing the heat gun thing as well, but I heard it doesn't last that long?

smoothed ,filled extra vent holes and painted mine.I would just paint I have probably 20 hours in mine with all the hand sanding but if cleaned paint holds up pretty good. not sure with camaros but had to remove wipers to get cowls off so also something else to consider.

Decided to try this on my truck today as its been driving me crazy! I used some mineral spirits, then hit it with Krylon satin black... We'll see how it holds up.
