Anyone have experience with DIPYOURCAR plasti dip kit?

My friend and I are considering doing a matte white plasti dip on his Fox body stang. (factory paint is rough). Looks like for about 300$ you can do the entire car yourself. I hear great things reading online about it and even see it on high end cars. Lamborghinis, GTRs, Porsches, Audis. Appearantly people are using this to protect the paint as well as have a unique finish. I have watched tutorials on it and it looks very simple. The material just breaks at the seams you want it too. Minimal taping required.

I was wondering if anyone has personally used the kit and had any success with it. It differs from the spray bomb can because 1. it is sprayed on at a consistant pressure with a spray gun and 2. They add different chemicals to it to make it level and stick to a car better.

I would hate to have him waste 300$ and have it look like crap. I am sure we are capable of doing a decent job I was just wondering if anyone has had experience doing an entire car and having it come out as advertised. It seems to be getting popular.

If you can spray the plasti dip then why not buy some single stage white paint and paint the car yourself?

The idea is that when you're tired of the plastidip you can just peel it off and it doesn't damage the paint beneath it or leave any residue. Same concept as vinyl wrapping the car.

He claims the paint is rough and needs to be painted, his idea is to use plasti dip to cover up a bad paint job. So why not just do it with a decent paint job?

$300 versus $3k plus. Besides, if it DOES work out and look decent, I could see doing it just so you can change the color every few months when you get tired of it. Could see the appeal there. But I have zero experience with plasti-dip.

I painted my own car (and that is clearly what I suggested him doing since he said he was going to spray on the plati dip) and my no where NEAR $3k, not even 1/3 of that cost, and I didnt use single stage. Do you know what single stage is? A very easy and cost effective way in painting a car. If he just went single stage then $300 would be the same cost, if he primed it first the cost might be a little more.

Its called options, he obviously wants to cover up the poor paint, I had a suggestion and only that no reason to jump all over my back about it. Obviously no one here (that I know of) has plati dipped their whole car. Only one that I know of who even uses it is Kyle and Craig.

Edit: FWIW Single stage is a paint that does not require base/clear coat.

I'd imagine the plasti-dip requires a lot less prep work and is much easier to correct if you screw up (which you probably will if it's your first time). The condition of the body will play a big role too. If they don't want to do any bodywork I'd suspect the plasti-dip would be more forgiving, but I don't have personal experience using it.

What bout doing the thinned rustoleum paint job. I think it costs about $100 and uses real paint. Lots of labor wet sanding, though, and limited colors, but have seen pics of cars done with it and they didn't look that bad.

He wanted it a matte color and wanted to do no body work or anything permanent was his logic with the dip. I am familiar with single step but it really isnt durable from my experience. Drying the car or trying to put any kind of wax over it and color is on your towel. We looked into the vinyl wrap but its between $1500-2000 to get it professionally done and I doubt we have the talent to put that on decent. The idea was cheap easy and repairable. If it looks like ass we could peel it and were out 300$ but not stuck with it. If he scratches it or something we can peel the panel and re spray it.

I just didnt know if anyone had 1st hand experience with it and had good results. I would hate to put it on and have it look like a big orange peel as well. From what I have seen though it levels out really nice on rims or CETA/Berger panels ect and thats out of a spray can. I have not seen the stuff made for a car out of a spray gun in person though but if you search it there are lots of cars done. The idea that you could change the color of the car in a day and not have it be permanent is what really intrigues us. Besides the 300$ price and doing the labor itself.

Like I said guys its a fox body. Not like its a Zr1 or something lol. If he decides to go with it I will post results up so we all know if its legit.

Whoa, slow your roll there, skippy. I didn't jump all over your back. I just pointed out the difference and how plastidip would be kind of neat if you want to change the color often. Damn. Never said you were an idiot, or wrong, or anything. Wheres the beef?

If he is asking for help with plastidip, he probably doesn't have the expertise to paint his own car. Hell, I know I sure as heck don't. Chill out, I'm not attacking you, man.
