Painted SS wheels?

Has anyone ever powdercoated or painted the SS wheels?
I was thinking about having mine painted black.

Andrew (shiv15) painted his factory silver ones black, ill see if I can get him to throw up some pics. But its definitely doable. They make special paint for wheels, you can get it at autozone or AAP, really any autoparts place should have it.

Yeah, Joel was trying to replicate the wheels on the 35th anny SS's. He struggled a lot stripping the paint off to get down to the machined aluminum surface. I think he gave up on the project.

Personally I would paint your's to look the the 35th anny SS's and forget trying to achieve the machined aluminum face. Just leave them silver on the face and paint the edges going back, black. It will be fast and much cheaper. Plus I don't think an all black wheel will look good on your car.

Well im will be going to be adding more black accents to my car. Im going to do the whislter mod vht the corners possibly a slp grill. I think black centers with the lip left silver would look pretty sweet.

I really like the look of your car without the grill too, looks meaner. I did black accents on my old 3rd gen's wheels and it made them look 10x better. I'm guessing the 35th anny is basically the same concept? Anyways, I've heard that you're supposed to use aircraft stripper to strip the paint off the wheels. It also takes forever.

Don't do it! That car in the photo looks terrible (IMHO). It just looks like there are black holes where there should be some nice "bling". It's lost it's personality. Looks like an old taxi cab that lost it's hub caps. Might as well just put some old black steelies on there and save yourself all the trouble.

Wheels are like car jewelry, and the black wheel thing that's so popular now just detracts from the overall look of the car. The car just looses any "flash" it could have from some nice polished or chrome wheels.

But, I'm just an old geezer, so you should do what YOU want with your car. This is just my take on the subject.

Black wheels generally need to have a chrome lip, and then they pop, instead of fading.
