  • Prepping to Powder Coat

So I have the disc brakes off my spare rear axle and I cleaned them up a lot with some engine degreaser, a wire brush, and dish soap. However there is some grime built up that either I cannot reach with my brush or it is not budging. Is there anything besides brake parts cleaner that would do the job.

For those of you following my powder coat project, I will keep you posted in the next week or so with pics.

Old toothbrushes are great for cleaning tight places. Especially if they are the firm ones.

Hmm... I will give that a try. I think I have a set of small wire brushes around here somewhere... Thanks!

Will do. I have some Red powder coat I was going to use but then I found a deal on some gloss black and some clear powder. I have pics of my cleaned brake parts ready for powder. I will post pics up later.

Sand or Media Blasting is the best and quickest way to accomplish what you're after. Also, if there is ANY SMALL residue of grease/cleaners, etc., ANY form of paint will lift-PERIOD!

You beat me to it, but I totally agree.

Most coaters blast the part first. If not then what is that acid for stains on bricks? Starts with a "M". Miric acid or something like that. That should do it.

                    Miradic Acid?
