  • Tail Light Panel "shaved with back light"

I am looking for a place to do custom with my rear tail light panel. I would like to remove the Camaro Logo but I want it to remain... LOL I am sure that sounded odd, But what I am looking for is the shaved look, but I want it to be back lit, so it can show thru. I don't it to look like I put a panel over the letters. Does anyone have an ideas.

only thing that i can think of, and i have no idea if this would work, is to make a panel out of plexi-glass, paint everything but the camaro lettering and have it backlit

Hmm. . . I can't really think of any way to do it without doing some serious mod work to the rear bumper. . . Is your car black, by any chance? I might have an idea for you if it is. . .

PM me for details. It's an idea I had for my Camaro when I had it.

This is what it would kinda of look like when on.

        and when it is off...

I think that Might work, I was also thinking.... Maybe cutting out the area around the lettering about 3/4 of and inch around the camaro lettering, then getting like a clear Plexi to fill in that area. then taking the part that was removed and flip it over. Now with the raised lettering and remove the raised area of course I would have to clean it up. I would then use which ever lighting source I would need. I would then prep the plexi with Nightshade and attach the lit area with the plexi Then it is up to some body work, to insert the new part and clean up the seams.

I am just thinking off the top of my head. Maybe not paint until it is body worked into the body.... Hmmm I need a body pro to talk it over... I think I might just go and get a donor part from another car... to make sure I don't do this on my car and it turn out bad!....

Below is what the full Tail Panel looks like just incase some of you don't know what the full part looks like

I am getting a replacement for the tail light panel as we speak. and I am shopping it around at a few dif custom body shops... I would love to see this happen... a black finish with red Camaro showing thru it... A couple of guys said the same thing I said to do it some said removing the whole exposed part of the panel and replace it with a transparent material and painting the whole thing in like a nightshade and back painting everything on the back accept the Camaro letters and diffusing the light so it dont look like it is a light behind but the letters are glowing... like in the photos above...

Yeah, if you can figure this out, it would look awesome. I can honestly say I've never seen another F-body with this type of modification.

Kinda... but I think you could still see the name when the car is shut down. I want it to disappear all together when the car is off.

I Know I will figure this out, now I just don't know if I want to wire it into the running lights, Brakes lights or just stand alone.... I will cross that bridge when I can and able to cross it...

just waiting on the donor car part... I would not want to do this mod with out some testing...

good luck with this mod, if it goes right, it could look really unique/awesome!

Also, just throwing this out there, might help. I seen a couple of months ago, a guy modded the rear fill (where the bird is) in on his 4th gen Trans Am with led lights that matched up with the brake lights. Was really unique...if ya think that could help, lemme know and i will go diggin for it.

Search for "Hall of Fame" on LS1Tech, there is a list that was posted on there of the most unique modifications, with links to their original threads. It was done a few times, but I've never seen anyone take on a project as large as the tail panel on a Camaro. . . I've only seen it done to 'birds.
