Nick's Custom Hood!

I checked out the hood today. Still in the initial stages, but looks pretty good. I think you will be surprised at what Nick is capable of. If I have time tomorrow I may stop by and help him smooth and shape the hood a bit before primer.

Thanks Ben, the folks who saw the pic I posted before just don't have the foresight so truly appreciate the whole scope of things. . . You're all going to be surprised. I'm no stranger to auto body work, so this is all being done the right way, it's going to look like it was made to look like this. The body lines match up very well, it looks great on the car, IMO, and I'm very proud of the amount of hard work and time I put into this project. When I do post pictures, I know some of you aren't going to like it, but I already decided that I wanted my car to look unique, and this is the way I'm going about doing that. I am hoping to buy the paint I need in a couple of weeks, then I'll be able to tackle the rest of the body work, and my car will be looking good like it deserves to. I sanded down the front bumper to prep it for primer, the passenger side quarter panel is coming after the front end is done, I need to weld in some patch panels on the pass. 1/4 panel, both rockers, and I need to pull the frame a bit to get things to line up again, but it's starting to get me excited, it's not too far from completion as it is, it was just the little things that kept compiling that caused me to start giving up hope. As of right now, from what I've gathered, there are no body panels in need of replacing other than the rear bumper. All of the repairs to the car, done PROPERLY, including paint and prep work and all materials, is going to total less than $500. So far, on the hood project alone, I already had all of the materials, but a while ago, I purchased the Fiberglass Cloth and Resin for a side scoop project on my 73 Mustang that never happened, and I decided to use it for this, so that was about $50 then. Still have 3/4 gallon of resin left, most of the tube of hardener, and about 1/4 of the fiberglass cloth I had. Paint for the entire car, including hardener, reducer, primer, and clear coat, is going to total about $300, and I already have the random tape/paper/air compressor/spray gun I'm going to need, so the cost of that is cut down significantly. A new rear bumper is going to cost about $50-$100, depending on where I find one, so the total is about $450. . . I'm stoked. I just hope that everyone else can appreciate the hard work I've put in my car in the last several days, and understand that whatever they say isn't going to change the fact that I spent that time and energy on this truly unique project. . .

I took the pic down, mostly due to the comment made after I posted it. . . Something by Matt about biting his lip. If you don't like it, cram it, there's nothing I can do now. The fiberglass has set, Ben and I are going to grind, bondo, and sand it, maybe even prime it tonight, and I'll post pics after it's in primer. At this point, your opinions don't matter to me, it's my car, and I did what I wanted to it. The pictures don't do my work justice, and I know the responses I get here will reflect that. There's nothing worse after a lot of hard work then hearing from a bunch of people you call friends that it looks like shit. You know? I'm pleased with it, Ben likes it, my Dad likes it, and that's all that matters to me. I respect you all, but you all must realize that not everyone has the inate ability to see a project for what it can be instead of what it is now. I can see past the fiberglass and bondo and see the finished product, most other people cannot. That's why the pictures are going to wait, but when I post them, you will be surprised. I have over 80 pictures of the hood in various stages of development, and I'll have plenty more when it's finished. I hope you can all respect my decision, and I think you will agree it will have been worth the wait.

I think you can admit that the picture you posted was not the prettiest thing. Sure, it's not reflective of the final product, but what was shown was basically part of a hood taped on top of another hood.

Anxious to see a picture of it after the bonding is complete and the rough sanding is done.

NICK C'mon Man Give us the pic.

Some people are going to hate on your car no matter what you do to it.
weather it is putting a bra on your car. Painting the rims. Color of your car.
OR even having a camaro in the first place.

All that matters is that YOU like it. Now i dont know about you but i LOVE to see a car or parts of a car come along. And i am really looking to see what comes of this. So PLEASE Post a pic of it. WE all know it is in its early stages. And Everything in its early stages are going to take sh*t no matter what. Especially if know one has EVER done it.

Well, Ben and I got the fiberglass sanded down and applied the first coat of bondo, and snapped some more pics, so I thought I'd throw up the much awaited pics, it's starting to look like a hood! lol
This is before we started fiberglassing, we laid the new hood peice on and started taping it down so we could get some rivets in to hold it all together.
