Where to mount a Fire extinguisher

Find some sort of mount and mount it right to the back of the driver's seat. That way in case of fire, it's right behind you. Or like Mark said, behind the Passenger's seat.

Mine is tucked on the outboard side of the drivers side rear seat. I need to actually mount it there though. I put one in the car after my buddies mustang engine bay caught fire and he couldn't put it out right away. Basically toasted the whole front of the car. I need to mount it though cause I had to hit the brakes hard once and the old extinguisher slid forward, hit my seat bracket, that sheared off the safety pin, and the pressure from the seat bracket activated the trigger and started spraying my rear carpet. DOH! Replaced that extinguisher and this one stays put better but should still be locked down. It is an easily accessed point for the driver. I can either reach behind me to grab it or open my door and it is right there.

Haha, that wasn't in downtown Mt Clemens, was it Tony? I used to have an extinguisher that I'd carry in my car but a mustang caught on fire there and I grabbed my extinguisher and wasted it on his car.

In the '73 it is mounted in the trunk along with a first aid kit and tool box. All of which are bolted or velcro in place. At most points judged shows you get an extra point for each and many times that makes the differance. Can't tell you how many people I've loaned my extingusher and first aid kit to before judging (as long as they weren't in my class LOL).
HOWEVER, I keep a small Halon extinguisher in the glove box.

In the '01 it is mounted in the open well in the rear drivers side along with a first aid kit. The chances are much greater of you needing it to assist someone else than to put out your own fire.
I say put it where it looks the best and keep a small Halon up front if you are worried.

No, this happened down the street from his own house. I think in Pontiac. He used a neithbors hose to put it out, but by the time he got it over there the engine bay was torched. His 2nd rebuild is almost finally done again. A lot of folks on Motown came together to help him out again.

Guess I've seen "The Fast and the Furious" a few too many times. . . lol That scene where the nitrous tanks explode was pretty cool. Why can't all ricers meet their end like that? I didn't know nitrous wasn't flammable. I guess you do learn something new everyday.

No N2O is not flammable. But if there is enough pressure on the tanks I would be concerned about the tanks bursting under high heat. I mean think about it. How much can you heat a volume of any gas container before the pressue becomes so much that it would blow. I would think however the force of the blast would extinguish the flames would it not?

All the extra oxygen it contains would probably fuel the fire.

Which is why the bottles have a blow off valve(allowing the bottle to relieve the excess pressure before exploding) and if you're smart you have a blow down tube which lets the nitrous exit outside of the car in the event of too much bottle pressure..
