  • Another update! Since spring is finally kicking off, I'm starting on the bodywork. My painter has just finished getting his garage ready to handle a paint job of this magnitude, and I have chosen a color. . . Tangerine Orange Pearl. I don't really know how to describe the color, but it will look like a million bucks when it's done. The body work is all going to be pretty simple, so I'm going to estimate that the new paint will be on in the next 3 weeks. For those of you who don't know what I need to do before paint, I'll make a list. . .

    The List:
Repair rust on RR 1/4 panel
    Adjust rear bumper alignment
    Re-align front end body panels
    Bump FL fender
    Bump hood
Repair body damage to pass. side rocker panel
repair rust on driv. side rocker panel
    replace driv. side view mirror
remove and prep spoiler for paint
remove and prep hood vents for paint
sand and prep front bumper, hood, fenders
Prep all other surfaces for paint

This is all going to be done in my driveway, and then I'm taking the car to the painter's garage and helping him paint it. I'm getting a killer deal on the paint, I only have to pay for the materials. How about that?! I'll post pics of my progress later.

    • Thats awesome nick. Are you going with a candy metallic finish or more or a flat one? Also Is this a lighter or darker shade of orange? Either way it will look great. Now you'll have to learn to be more careful with that fly new paint!

Notice how I said Tangerine Orange PEARL?! Pearl paint has a really cool effect, and you usually don't use metallic paint as a base for the pearl. It just won't look right. As soon as I get some paint books to pick the exact shade I want for my car, you'll be the first to see it. It's really a nice color, and I think my car is the only one on here that can pull off the look I'm going for. . . lol

                    • Nope. . . Some suggestions are being thrown around, but I think I am going to stick with the Tangerine Pearl and Black stripes that I had originally planned on getting. The painter has recently told me that he might even end up selling his 80's Monte Carlo SS with a 305 and auto trans. . . I think I might be able to get it from him. He also offered to give me the motor, trans, and PCM out of my old Roadmaster, he's not going to use them for anything. Things are looking up!

                            • I'm going to. He agreed to give me the car back, but I'm still thinking I'm going to do the 4.3 swap, just because it's easier. Unless one of my Dad's mechanic friends can help me with the LT1 swap, it's just not looking like a possibility. I'd need cash to buy a new exhaust system, new radiator, engine mounts, etc. The 4.3 should bolt right in. PCM is under the hood too, so no tearing apart the dash to get at the end of the engine wiring harness.
