well chad...... my shop is expensive for everything. it's just we live in that part of town that we can get away with it! plus we do an amazing job on everything we do. so that comes at a premium i suppose. and we warranty all our tint work. if any of your tint ever starts to peel crack fade ect..... we redo it for free. so yea i know we are expensive. but hey that's how we make our living!

Really your price is about right, Matt, Chad just got a great deal. I paid I think like 125-150 for my tint and I got it done at a shop somewhere between 11 and 13 on Gratiot.

greenmachinematt, do places charge to take off old tint
i think we charge like $30 to take off two side windows.... if we happen to both come across eachother at the same time at a meeting i could do it for ya for free...all ya gotta do is peel the tint off....and then take a razor blade and some glass cleaner and scrape the glue all off...just make sure you only go up and down (side to side can cause the edges of the blade to hit the curves in the glass and scratch) and just use maybe like 3 razors per window so they stay sharp. as for...
there is something sharp eating away at my tint
that would be from the window track. it's an F-body thing. my buddy's TA is ripped to hell where when the window goes all the way into the door. and it rocks in just enough to hit the window track and scratch it up. my driver window actually has a little gouge (spelling?) in it from that happening. i don't know if it's fixable cause it's just the way our cars are?...
Superman09Yea, i have 35% now, should i remove that and add 15% or 5% or go on top of my 35%

it doesn't matter really. it just add's "room for error" really. with a tint job over a tint job, it's like combining any flaws that might be in both. it's been done, but it's just less of a hassle, and will usually come out better if you just have one layer of tint. especially on the driver/passanger window.....

damn that was a long reply...this was also my 300th post!! wahoo!

my stepdad actually took apart my door whyl he was at work one day and he said that there was a litle like ruber thing or something missing? im not exsactly sure but ill half to talk to him and see what it is that is doing it.....

as for the taking the tint off thing if its just peel and scrape i can probibly do it myself then, i thaught it was harder because my stepdad tried to take off his tint and he had a hell of a time and just gave up on it, so its still on his window, lol that was a funny day, i asked him if he wanted my help and he was like NO, i can do it leve me alone (b*tch and complain, b*tch and complain) haha

do you guys use a heat gun or do you just peel a corner off with a razor blade and then tug on it?

im not sure what post this is but i know its alot ,lol
im number 3 in posts so im working on passing arch but i think that will be a wyle...

dam i should have split this up into like 4 different posts because this is a long one,
my hands hurt from all this typing im going to bed

Yeah you should just take your time one day and get it all off yourself for free. Like matt said its a ***** getting the glue off but once you get going you'll get the hang of it.

I had to remove the glue from my old tint before I could retint the windows, and I used a VERY FINE steel wool. So fine it feels soft. I think the number on the package was 0000. I got it at Meijers in the hardware department. It doesn't scratch the glass at all, and it removes the adhesive very well imo. I didn't try using a razor blade because I didn't want to risk scratching the glass. It may work better, or worse. Just a suggestion. This fine steel wool also works well for cleaning up dull or lightly rusted chrome (NOT ALUMINUM WHEELS!! It scratches the finish!) Just my $.02.
