  • need some help.

Hey everyone, I need some help. As some may remember ive been having issues with the camaro with regard to the trans not shifting out of 1st, and when it does it feels like it goes into neutral. ive also had issues with the security light, and sometimes when you turn the key, the dash lights come on but it wont crank, other times it will and start on only 4 cylinders, sometimes 8. Im suspecting a squirrel or mouse got under my hood. I dont have the time to mess with it and was wondering if anyone new an honest, GOOD mechanic in the southwest michigan area that has some considerable experience with the LT1's and wont try to earn a retirement from me? the car has been sitting becasue i just odnt have time to tear into it. between the kids' football games, wife going to college, and me in the reserves acadamy plus working 45-50 hours a week, I think im going to have to just pay someone to get the car running and driving again.

But I dont have 1000's of dollars to throw at it either. With the season almost over to be able to drive it anyways, if it has to be in a shop for a couple of weeks or months. i dont care. im in no hurry. but I do really need to get it sorted out.

    Thanks
    Kelley

Your speed sensor might be bad. I just read a thread of the same issue (not coming out of first). It's very easy to replace and mine cost $55.

I had an issue with the security light on my 99 I had. You need to bypass your vats. Go to shbox.com it will guide you through how to bypass it.

    Edit:

I Have thrown a VSS Code.hmmmm...if ti is that simple, that would be awesome. i was kind of doubting it since all these other problems all showed up at the same time. ive also had a injector pulse signal failure code when it was running on 4 cylinders.

        Keep it simple

Change the vss and see what that fixed then go from there. There is a 3 digit code in your glove box it will be D8(something) mine was D8N. There are 4 different vss for these cars. I have a 700r4 so it's not the same as yours.

It literally tool me more time putting my car on the hoist the changing the sensor. A little of trans fluid will come out so be ready. Also, there is a little gear that slips on the en you'll have to switch it over to your new sensor. It's self explanatory once you get the old one out. It's 1 10mm bolt holding it on.

No, it looks like both wires have bare stripped ends as though it was shoddy repair work that has failed. Would the vss sensor being unhooked cause my other issues like security light and injector pulse issues? Our should I keep looking for seperate issues elsewhere

I would say they are unrelated
