Has anybody ever been to the lapeer dragway? I was searching on google for the closest drag strip to my house and this came up. Is it a good strip? Does anybody else go? Is there a best time to go?

Better put your flame suit on most people hate the place. I personally love it because its closest to me and when i go i actually get to make passes instead of rotting in the staging lanes for over an hour between passes.

I plan on going this year, everyone says its a piss poor track but I see it as a good learning tool. Tony (TB2) on here goes often and loves it because he can make so many passes.

Good I would like to be able to make several passes, plus it is alot closer than any other strip I found.

From what it sounds like, they're not strict it's just the track prep isn't the best, the condition of the actual track isn't the best, etc. It's more of a red neck track (for lack of a better way to describe it) than some of the others in the state.

Here's a video from Lapeer that was just posted in another thread - it gives you a good idea of what the track is like. Skip to 0:40 to see the track.

Great place to learn what to do on a drag strip. Terrible place to try and run a number.

If your running mid 12's or slower you will hook the same there as anywhere else. The pits are grass/gravel, and the johns are pits(literaly). And they do not know the word, "track prep". But that being said. its a great place to go and tune, or just get familiar with how to race. You will get plenty of passes in there. Faster guys dont like it because of the lack of track prep. But i have seen f-bodys run into the 8's 1/4mi there before. So if your setup is right, it can happen. With the right suspension tune I will run the same 60ft there as I do at Milan.

I remember racing at Lapeer 30 years ago. Still looks the same.

It would be nice if the owner ever put a single dollar into the place but that doesnt seem like it will ever happen. Its fine for working some bugs out. You'd think all the hard hitter "street racers" would race there since its like racing on the street, maybe worse.

Its nice because its close and you can usually get a ton of passes in. Great place to learn how it all works, etc. But ive usually been a few tenths slower there.
