  • WANT: Chevy 350 engine

I had a deal setup to buy an engine but that has just fallen through cause the guy said the car was towed to salvage yard by his step dad, and the salvage yard now wants 200 more than the guy did and without the computer/harness, and several other parts, so they can kiss my ***.

Anyway, I am back to square one, trying to find a suitable 350 engine to put in my 83 Trans Am. I would "like" to have a TPI setup with computer/harness, but I cant be greedy, so a carbed 350 will be fine too. Just as long as its in decent shape. I dont want any engine thats been bored more than 30 over. I'm not concerned about whether its 2 or 1 piece rear seal, and though I'd prefer a 4 bolt, 2 bolts would be ok too. I'm not looking for exotic power anyway, i dont plan anymore than 400hp/tq max. at this time.

if anyone has what I am needing please let me know, and we can discuss it and if I want it, then I'll be on my way to pick it up within 2 weeks.

i have a early to mid 70's not sure the date, chevy 350 4-bolt main. Its 30 over on the cyclinders and the cam and crank journals are stock i belive. it is just the crank and block but that is all most builders want anyway so they can build it how they want it. there is no ring ridge at the top of the cyclinders i belive it was machined not long ago. i would take 100 for the block and crank. i am in carleton mi.

Justin, if you'd shoot me some build prices on a 350 or 355 short block, and long block, i would be very interested. I doubt I could afford anything more than a 355. Cost is a major factor which is why I've been looking for used engines. At this time I got about $1000 to work with plus a little leeway for small things. I have most of the stuff I'd need to get a long block running, so I dont really need an entire crate engine. just a block, rotating assembly and hopefully decent heads. In September I will be getting aftermarket heads anyway, so if I only got a short block I could get by with using LG4 heads and just remove some material to lower compression ratio. Temp fix, but it would work. I'll have a nice chunch to work with in September but until then I'd just like to get something started.

I'd like to be in the ballpark of 3 to 4 hundred hp/tq. Obviously I want the most I can get for my money, but I gotta stay within budget. i'd be willing to work something out if you can get within my budget or work with me.

So if I understand correctly both these engines do NOT have rotating assemblies, just the block and crank only? Right?

Yes, it is block, crank and main caps. If you look in summit or jegs you can get good affordable kits, if i recall they had a nice 383 kit for like 600. And im sure you would be able to find affordable parts between junk yards and people on here. It would not be hard to put a good fast 350 together for cheap.

my boss has a 350 and a 350 turbo transmission he just yanked out of a truck that got scrapped. before he pulled it, he said it ran fine. it needs a rebuild though, just gaskets and the like, as it has some serious leaks. i think hes asking around $700 for both.

he does a lot of projects, and he got the motor to put in his '54 pontiac, but then he got ahold of a 502 big block. and then he found out the grille on his '54 pontiac is worth $2000 alone, so hes selling it.

located in carrollton (basically saginaw). i can get some pictures and more information if youre interested.
