Well, my recent troubles with the clutch system in the 94 V6 have led me to seek other sources of enjoyment for these summer months. . . I'm now in the market for a LT1 or LS1 F-Body. I know I probably won't find a LS1, but it's still there as an option . . . lol Here's what I want:
Must be below 100,000 miles
Must have T-Tops
Must have Power Windows and Door Locks, Keyless Entry is a +
Must run and drive great, I don't want to fiddle with the drivetrain
I'm not afraid of wrecked cars, I'd actually love to get a project car. I'm going to call about a 96 T/A with 65k on the clock that needs some major front end repair tomorrow. My price range is about $3500, but if it's wrecked or needs work, I'll need some of that $3500 to do the necessary repairs and buy the parts to fix it. . . Let's see what ya got!
If you're looking for wrecked you can find an LS1 for that. I found a wrecked 98 Camaro down in Waterford like a month ago. The entire front clip was toast but the car was straight. I tree landed on the front end this winter during an ice storm. They were asking $3,800

Yeah, but that $3500 is going to have to cover parts to fix the car too. If I can get a nice LS1 car with a toasted front clip, I do have an LT1 V6 car that could be used for parts. . . I like the LT1 front end better anyways. . . Can you say Sleeper? lol Lemme know if you find an LS1 car that I can get for less than $3500, I'll try to pick it up. The loan has like 15% coming right off the top of it for some sort of fee or something, so realistically, I have about 3350+whatever I can save up in the next couple of weeks. It'll be hard to find a wrecked LS1 car and get parts for it for $3500, but maybe if I buy the car, make it driveable, then throw some more money from my weekly paychecks into it for parts, I think I can make it work.
You notice how LOW that car sits on the right side and how HIGH it sits on the left? Make sure nothing else is screwed up if you buy it... Doesnt look so great. If i were you i'd get the V6 running and just save your cash until you can afford a nicer LT1/LS1 car. if you get one beat up.. you might get in over your head and start having troubles. Not saying it can't be done, but i'd save up a bit more.

Nick, I've seen your the bodywork you've done on your car, and it looks great, I have no questions about your skills. However, you have to admit that a car that's been wrecked is never quite the same, especially if the frame require straightening. Also, if you do buy a wreck one to repair, and it's on a loan basis, you might find that's more to repair that it looks on the outside, and the loan might not be able to cover it. I would agree with the guys for you to save up a bit more, and get something nicer that you don't have to work on. If it is a loan, maybe you should comtemplate getting a slight bigger one and get one you don't have to work on. However, it is your money and your burden, so what you do it's up to you. I've bought enough cars to regret not saving up and get what you REALLY want in the first place. Never again...but that's just me.
Yeah, no doubt that TA is effed up, Nick. It looks like minimal damage to the body but the frame is twisted, look at how high the driver's side is compared to the passenger side.
And I'm sorry, Nick, but saying $3500 for a wrecked car and that has to cover the cost to fix it, that's 100% impossible.
Please don't clutter my thread with your opinions. I know what I'm getting into here, I've been doing body work and frame repair alongside my dad since I was very young, I think I can handle a little body work. I know the frame on that car is twisted. That's the first thing I noticed. I'm looking for a low mileage (less than 75k is best) LT1 or LS1 F-Body. I've stated what I want, I know what I want, and I'm going to spend my money the way that my Dad and I think is best. Don't post here unless you've got something for me. The car doesn't even have ot be wrecked. The better the shape, the more money will be spent on mods rather than body work. Let's see what you got!
Another thing about the whole "Wrecked cars are never the same" mentality, I can agree to some extent, but if you do it right, replace the parts that need to be replaced, and straighten everything properly, there's no reason that a car can't be fixed to like-new condition. The frame on the T/A I posted above is twisted, yes. However, it's easier to straighten a twisted frame than a crumpled frame. For the frame repair, I plan to take whatever car I end up with to Jenkin's Auto Body here in Adrian. They have the knowledge, experience, and tools to do the job right, plus Jeff is an honest guy. He won't let that car leave his shop until it meets his own high standards. The body work will be done by myself with the help and direction of my Father, who has done some VERY impressive repair work over the years. I have high expectations of whatever car I'm going to buy, and beleive me, I won't do anything to the car unless I'm doing it right. Let's see some of those cars now, I haven't found many LS1's, but I'd like to!!

First one has a spun rod bearing and would need to be towed home, the second one looks alright, but it's got too many miles and he can't prove the engine was rebuilt. They both would make great projects!

That's just his asking price. My dad thinks he can get it for about $1,800-$2,000, but that's just his guess. I tried calling the owner several times today, no answer, and I don't know when I'll hear from him. I'm taking my dad to look at the '93 Formy that Ben and I test drove last week tomorrow, maybe I'll bring that home. It looked like a pretty clean, unmolested car. He said he would take $3k for it, but I think he'll come down even more on the price. The cheaper the car, the more I will have to get it in perfect shape and get some paint for it. . .
