Well, gold springs would be nice except I don't need the spring pressure they produce and all I intend on doing is reusing my stock retainers/locks to keep costs down. The cam I am going with now only has .563 lift, so 918's will work fine.

.563 lift, sounds like a TR224 cam? Patriots spring kits are pertty inexpensive, i just picked up their new Gold "xtreme" springs for my 6L heads, it was like $250 to my door

After a while I have seen almost every set of 918's i have seen installed break for some reason or another. The golds don;t have that much spring pressure thats a good combination of durabiltiy and leave potential to go 620 lift later.

Well, I'm going for budget here. I think I can get used 918's for under $100. I only paid $250 shipped for my cam (yes, it's a TR224) and I am picking up pushrods for $75, so dropping $250 on springs seems pointless to me when later this summer I am going to be swapping out the cam and heads for something better. If I could find used ones cheap (golds), I'd do it, but it's not likely.
