if you're using a LS6 intake, just remove the egg crate from the bottom of the intake and use the LS1 water line. When in doubt, Whip it out !

Agreed - I am in the process of swapping intakes and just did this on mine. They came off easy. Took a dead blow hammer and tapped down the LS1 crossover to get it closer to the valley cover, and everything fits great.Originally posted by farmington View Postif you're using a LS6 intake, just remove the egg crate from the bottom of the intake and use the LS1 water line.
I'd rather have all 4 ports open than blocking the rear 2.

I ran a LS6 in the front and a CTS-V one for the rear, tied them together and then ran them to the top of the radiator. They weren't too expensive to buy from my buddy at the dealer with him getting them at their cost.
Not my pic but you get the idea. I didn't want to mod the intake because i plan to sell it when i upgrade and felt that would diminish the value.

so many people knock the ribs off nowadays I think it would actually be a selling point to get one that's already done. When in doubt, Whip it out !

I concur - I would have preferred purchasing one that was properly modified rather than me risking breaking it by knocking them off. Now that I've done it, I can see how easy it is to do and wouldn't be concerned either way.
I just took a pair of channel lock pliers and "twisted" the ribs off where the crossover pipe ran. At the "intersection" of the ribs (running front to back and side to side), I used a small sharp wood chisel to knock it flat. Piece of cake, took me maybe 15 mins tops.
For me, I don't plan on upgrading past the LS6 unit, to resale isn't really a concern of mine. Not to mention, the prices on these things seem to be rapidly increasing. I don't see myself losing my investment should I ever choose to upgrade further (not likely).

I personally wouldn't want to buy one that had parts broken off it, unless the price reflected that. For the cost of the steam ports to do it correctly, it just wasn't worth it IMO to save $20.Last edited by formula218; March 17th, 2016, 02:18 PM.sigpic

correctly is a subjective term. I felt it was better to maintain the crossover the engine was designed with, rather than fitting one from a later block to it.
In my mind, I'd rather risk effing up a $300 intake rather than my heads.
Just playing devil's advocate.

That makes sense for you fancy folks with LS1s, I have a 5.3 so my intake is probably worth more than my heads lamo.
Edit: Now that i think about it, my whole motor way only $350. So my intake could be worth than the whole damn thing lolLast edited by formula218; March 17th, 2016, 06:23 PM.sigpic

Makes sense with a FAST - the LS1 coolant crossover takes a lot of massaging from what I have seen to make it work.
With the LS6 intake, LS1 coolant crossover is easily fit if the ribs under the intake are trimmed.
