  • 3800 Valvetrain parts

Here is a list of the parts I need. I am building my heads for more power

    1.7 or 1.8 rockers
    Retainers
    LS6 springs or comparable
    Valve locks
    Valve seals
    LS7 lifters
decent cam, something around 320/317 Exh and intake
    hardened pushrods
    stainless valves

Just trying to get some quality used or cheaper new parts before i spend big bucks!

By the time you get around to make decent power N/A you are probably going to be well in over a grand. My advice would be a P&P, simple cam, and then a turbo. Easily will make over 350+

Because that's going to be so much cheaper than a NA build

That size of cam is not going to be street friendly, won't make any power until 2500 and will peak over 7000rpm. I would stay under 220 duration (@ .050) and less than .550 lift

Actually michael it could be if you don't outsource your work. Simple turbo setups can be had for easily under $2000, just have to know where to look.

Try it out and let me know how well all those cheap Chinese knockoff parts work. Might be under 2k on paper, but in reality...

Not trying to but heads here, but I have seen an actual "budget build" in person. The car was quite remarkable. The owner did most of the work himself, welding, tuning, etc. Full interior car, 3.1/3100 hybrid with a GT3582r turbo tuned on the stock ecm and it runs 11's in the 1/4 at milan. He has also never had a problem with any of his parts.

Garrett turbo or an ebay special?

Nicholas, look into the LS9 springs. Lingenfelter sells them cheap.

Ebay special but he claims it was a very well built turbo, and as I said he has had no problems so far. Obviously you don't to use an ebay turbo to be on a budget, just find one on craigslist and have it rebuilt.

It amazes me how much people love to spill false information lol. First of all, I have no power goals. I am simply building up my heads because my engine is already going to be apart. $1000 is my budget for the needs so I'm ok with that, plus used parts can save money. My buddy has a grand prix with a similar setup running 1.9 rockers, XP cam, p&p, and a few other mods (exhaust, etc) and gained 30hp at the wheels.

I will definitely look into the LS9 springs. I think the 90# LS6 springs won't handle the lift. I think with 1.7 rockers I'll be about .520 lift and that is still very streetable. I will be getting a tune!

                    lol... not false info.

Car is in toledo, have seen it with my own eyes. Have actually met the owner, he takes it racing almost every weekend. Built it in his own garage. Also, i think if you are only gaining 30 hp a the wheels (at the most), the $1,000 could be spent in a lot of other places. Just my opinion.

I wasn't saying you were giving false information lol, I meant that as a general statement. I agree that $1000 could be spent better elsewhere, however, when I start adding other mods this will pay off I dividends. The only reason I'm going this now is because my engine is apart ans I don't want to tear it down again. I also added a rollmaster timing chain.

XP cam and 1.7 rockers would put you at .553/.570 which is right at the edge of LS9 springs, need to make sure they are installed at 1.80" spring height. The LS9 springs are essentially the same as LS6 springs, 90lb seat and 295lb open if I remember right. GM 12625033 is the part number.

For some reason I cannot find the LS9 matched set on Ligenfelter's website, part numbers was L230045297. The regular sets were good to .570 and the matched sets were ok to .580.

Those are the ones, but they did sell matched sets good for an additional .010"

I'll have to check the VS specs later after work
