Well for as a gauge, I just build my rear end with 3.73 gears, a Detroit Tru-Trac posi and rebuild kit ran me all of about $800 with new parts from DTS/Summit and many hours of googling/reading the pamphlets they sent me, let alone the tools I bought to build it. I even got a 10 ton press from harbor freight ... So I guess I went all out.

Up to you, but building your own rear might not be the cheapest option. Granted, I probably could have done things cheaper, but I at least ended up with what I wanted in the end. I'd say picking up a used carrier from ebay is a good start, and a gear set isn't all that expensive. Then find a buddy who knows how/has the tools to build it himself and you'll be all set for around $300-500 give or take.

G80 on the 99+ isn't a cone style posi, it is a Torsen unit. Completely gear driven, doesn't wear out (so to speak) but will freewheel if one side loses all traction, hence the reverse rotation of the opposite side when both wheels are in the air.
