  • Engine rebuild/ restore

Anyone know a good/safe/reliable shop that can do a compression ratio increase/ rebuild?

im planning on tearing down my engine soon for regular cleaning/ maintenance, would like to increase the compression ratio well im at it- bring it back up from 8.5 to 11 or so

doesnt matter where- but would help if it were close to midland

That is a huge increase, which means $$$$. What is your final goal for the motor?

I'm not sure 100% what all they can do, but State Motors in Eastpointe (Gratiot just south of I-696) rebuilt my engine and rebuilt Fred's mom's 1st gen Firebird engine. They do great work and reasonable prices.

Right behind the K-Mart in midland is Circle auto parts (its where i work). Talk to scott in the machine shop, he would be able to help you out.

at the moment- the compression ratio of 8.5 is restraining my engine- i would like to get my motor to the glory a 455 BB should have! yeah, compression increases are expensive, but im young and by no means a mechanic. this is my first car, and it was a project car-- learning as i go!

Some flat tops and 78cc heads should get you close. Plan on $2000 for a rebuild - might be more, might be less depending on the parts you want in/on it.
