easier to pull a motor and replace it with a good one then rebuilding.. i've known a lot of 3800's to spin bearings.. happened to me in my dads buick last year. cant find any in a junk yard? pretty common engine98 z28, m6, monster clutch, eibach pro kit, custom twin turbo setup, 317 heads, z06 valve springs, arp rod bolts, 512rwhp at 10lbs. cobra eater

Idk feel like it'd be easier to pull it and put in a new one cuz i bought my camaro off some people and the motor spun the bearing within a week (no i didnt run the shit out of it) yet lol. since that went bad i think it'll be easier to get a new one... i found some at a junk yard but thought maybe someone had a better one than a junk yard one.

Reason I posted to rebuild rather than swap to unknown engine is you then know what you have verses buying an unknown.sigpic

Just to elaborate a little more on my dad's point, when we bought my LT1 drop-in, we were told it was perfectly fine running engine until he t-boned a guy. We did do some visual inspection as far as how much sludge there was, how the cylinders looked, etc but our biggest mistake is that we didn't look at the main bearings. Within 80 miles of driving the new engine, it spun two bearings hardcore and I had a handful of quarts of gas in my oil pan. If we would have bought a new LT1, we might buy it thinking it's good and then find out something else is wrong with it whereas we knew what was wrong with the LT1 we had and once it was rebuilt we knew it was going to be in top running order.- Brian Meissen

It might cost a little bit of coin, but if you take it somewhere to have the short block rebuilt then you can blame the builder.Originally posted by CamaroRs View PostYa good point i think rebuilding might be the better idea that way when it messes up i can only blame myself. well ill blame whoever helps lol.

I have a spare 3800, but it definitely needs a rebuild, which I plan on doing over the summer. Still have to tear it down to even see if it can be rebuilt. Not sure you would want to wait that long thoughAdding power makes you faster on the straights. Subtracting weight makes you faster everywhere.
For six days work may be done, but on the seventh day, you shall have a track day, a Sabbath of competing, to time the FIREBIRD; whoever does any work on it shall be put in last place.
