  • looking for a clean lt1 engine!

    Same as title, I am lookng for a nice, clean lt1 engine...let me know if you seen any online on other sites or know someone with one laying around. its going in a 1995 pontiac formula

    I'm keeping my eyes open for you. If you see one out of a Caprice/Impala don't get it though, those have iron heads.

        Whats wrong with iron heads? I mean, its not THAT much more weight.

        all depends on what the needs are.

          Putting iron heads on a car that came with aluminums is a step in the wrong direction IMO. The engineers at GM felt F bodys needed different heads then a family sedan for a reason.

            It would be the opposite way around. The LT1 come out in 1992 in the corvette and 1993 in the F-bodies. It wasn't installed in the D and B bodies until 1994. I would bet the main reason for the switch to iron heads was cost! I would also guess the d/b bodies had a bigger cooling system because they didn't require mobil one like the vette.

              I understand and everyone should want the aluminum heads, but if its a situation where someone just needs a engine...heads shouldnt stop someone. Not to mention Iron head LT1's are usually cheap. With that cheap comes heavy mileage but do you see what I mean?

              Not everyone is racing there car, some of us actually have fun with them.

              I am willing to bet if I put iron heads on mine I wouldnt even notice a difference.

                iron heads are actually quite a lot heavier. I believe you add at least 40 pounds in total if you use them. On the upside they flow better, but you also can't run as much compression with them because of the lesser conductivity.
