I wasnt going to respond but since you got your panties in a bunch... I never said your wasting your time! Remember I am doing a 305 build myself one day, I said your wasting your time putting a 4.10 in your carrier! Meaning in your 7.5 10 bolt OPEN DIFF Rear end! I recommended getting a POSI rear or unit and then upping the gear, you would be much happier! If your other thread your referring to was your NOS thread or "CHEAP power mods" then you need to learn to take advice better, spray the shit out of the 305 hell I would do it if I could burn chips for a tune, and the "cheap" power upgrades where recommended to you as well. Drop your attitude and take some advice, many people in this thread have already said back to topic a few times, including me. You ask for advice you got it, might not be what you wanted to hear, but if you did not want advice since you know it all then dont ask for it.

I'll say it again, someone get this kid some 4.10's to put in his rear end.

there was a place out of state thats an Fbody graveyard you can get a 4th gen Posi rear end with 3.42 gears for less than 350 shipped or pick up for even less. IIRC But like i stated many times already Call around to some local Junk Yards and try getting one from a Manual 4th Gen that would basically insure its a 3.42 LSD as long as it was from the v8 and it should come with the brakes. I got lucky wheni upgraded from my stock rear to posi i got my 3.42 With the LT1 disc brake setup for 80 dollars. less than you can even get the LT1 Brake conversion for to go from drum to disk
        04 dodge ram HemiGtx 001/433
93 Firebird Carbed v8 mini tubbed. (Per Kammi--- Race Car)
        08 yamaha R6 (fuel saver)

Good advice, you can find 4th gen rear ends on CL all day long, just not sure if you wanted the wider rear or not. Some thirdgens (I think the V6 ones did for sure) came with higher gears and POSI I would need to look that up again.

the wider issue can be countered later with A diferent offset rim. or he can trim the tubes and re weld and throw shorter axle shafts in.

Yep exactly, just depends on how much work you want to do. This is the better route and most cost effective.

S10's use a 8.5" ring gear. Fbodys use a 7.5". Thats not gonna work.

                          I believe most(at least mine did) 2.2 automatic s10s with the 2.2 had 4.10s The manual 2.s2 had a 3.xx.

edit ..... from what mike said.... just make replace the coils with leaf springs
