relax, Fred and Darren are just trying to help you. 700R4s have a short first gear already if you compare them to a turbo 350/400, and you pair that up to a motor that stops making power around 4500. Installing a 4:10 your first gear will be very short

Good luck finding the parts you are looking for.

maybe you should work on reading what people tell you! Your wasting your time putting in a steeper gear in your rear end! You need to find a POSI rear end and disc brake would be better in the long run too. Need get a rear end out of a 4th gen or find a POSI one from a thirdgen. The annoying thing seeing all of these threads from someone who quite doesnt know what they are talking about, (ill be blunt as well). You need to research more and go from there, a better rear end with a better gear that will help your car. So take the advice as you want, hey if I had a 4.10 ring and pinion I would sell it to ya! You need to work on taking some constructive advice, you do what you want with your car. Personally I would spend the money making it look good, working on the suspension and small things getting it ready for a 350 or bigger motor.

If you want it to be fast, put it on a trailor and have Sean pull you around with his new truck.

        I have a 700R4 convertor but I don't think it is a highstall convertor.

yeah Travis dont take things personal these guys are just trying to help you, trust me they KNOW by experience so sometimes there info is spot on(even though it might not be what you want to hear) me being 21 i know exactly how you feel(just want to go faster) but there's other things you have to take in consideration. i don't know about you, but i hate spending money twice, so if they say it wont be the best gear i would take there advice or just buy the 4.10s and who knows you might like them or hate them. lol not to get distracted have you raced caudle yet? lol
EDIT: my car wouldn't be half as nice without this site and these guys. lots of knowledgeable folks on here. do what i do... TAKE ADVANTAGE LOL

I told him 4.10 gears cause he wanted a car that would accelerate HELLASIOUSLY fast. Thats about the best way to do it. Yeah, even with a 700r4 it will probably have a top speed of 100 mph, but none of his buddies will be able to catch him to that point. He dosent want to take the time to actually MAKE the car fast, he just wants to instantly make it fast. Over gearing will get you that. I dont think that a 3.42 or 3.73 would make much differance at all. If I had a old, pos, 305, and wanted to make it a street race warrior, thats what I would do. Get out of the hole efficently, rev quickly, and get to the finish line quickly. When you get down to it, put an LT1 cam, a carb and intake on it and rev it to 5500 rpm. Combine that with the gear and converter, and you have some cheap fun. Eric L

Im not saying 4.10s are right for this application, but they will give him the desired outcome. Like I said, there are "proper" ways of doing this, and there is the fast way of doing it. Im showing him the fast way, lol. He had very specific wants. I want to make my car faster, I dont want to spend any money, and I want to do it quickly. Nothing like making my job harder, lol. I give advice based on the the OPs wants and needs. Custom tailored ya know, lol. Eric L

jesus christ.....i wasnt trying to be all mean about it. reason why i got frustrated at darrenscamaro was becuase EVERY thread i make he says its a waist of time. and i understand that i shouldnt do anything to a 305 i understand....i dont feel like spending alot of money on this car. i wanna get the trans good, suspension good, rear end good and just some little upgraded to hold me off till i put the sbc out my truck in the car. i just want it to be fun to stop light race people for now. im not trying to run 12s i wanna be able to just have fun. i dont think cruising around in a good looking car is fun. i would rather my car look stock slow and be fun and sorta quick.

and i havent raced kyle yet. i havent seen him for couple months.
