I'm going to look at one tonight with the guy who wants to buy the car, he's actually purchasing the engine. Does it matter the year of the engine or does it have to be OBD-1?2015 Silverado

95 engines are unique. Technically the 93-95 engines are pretty much the same aside from a couple differences.- Brian Meissen

96 would work but the 96 has a crank position sensor (CPS) whereas the 95 does not. If you use your 95 harness, you could just leave the CPS in place (and unplugged) and I *think* everything would still run normally...- Brian Meissen

My 96 has an engine out of a 94 Caprice. I'm pretty sure nothing was changed between the two except for the motor. The guy who did it never said anything about using a different harness.

Yes that is correct. I have a 94 motor in my 97 ss. They are very similar. You would want to keep your OBD1 knock sensor and put it in the new motor. Just leave the crank sensor unplugged. alternator has a differant connector on the red wire, and thats about it. Well, that and the vented opti stuff. Eric L

94 is OBD1, 96 is OBD2. 94 has an unvented optispark, 96 has a vented optispark. 94 has a splined optispark, 95+ is driven by the dowel in the cam. 93 and 94 timing cover is completely different than the 95 timing cover which is completely different than the 96-97 timing cover. 96-97 has the crank position sensor, 93-95 does not. ect, ect.- Brian Meissen

'93 was Speed Density, 94+ was Mass Air Flow. Don't know if there are any internal differences, but if the guy is looking for a full engine to put in and go, and needs the PCM/ECM as well, I don't know if he'll run into any problems trying to run a '93 engine in a newer vehicle. . .Originally posted by meissen View Post95 engines are unique.
