  • looking for 12bolt or 9'

im looking to buy a used 12bolt or 9" for my 96z28. looking to buy used to get one cheaper. my car is by no means wicked or puts down crazy numbers so im in the market for either. my 10 bolt is on its last leg and im not fixing it nor am i buying another one, just a waste of money in my opinion. i know im better off posting this on tech but i dont want guys from cali telling me they got one for me . so if anyone has one or knows of one for sale lemme know.

ill even take a broken one if anyone has a busted 12bolt like i know larry was on the fence bout fixing his or selling it, pmd him and hes still undecided so let me know guys. thanks

Your car is a 6 speed correct? I'm told that a 12 bolt isn't your best option...

My dads 12 bolt holds enough horse power to pull the front wheels on that heavy car, on 14in slicks and a 5500 stall. So I want to believe theyre somewhat strong.

plenty strong when a TA isnt bolted to the pinion

Id either run a S60 or a 9 inch espically with a 6 speed. Good luck with the search. Eric L

In a sense its an automatic, more or less a manual that you dont have to clutch

the trans is forgiving but as Larry mentioned the major problem with 12 bolts in 4th gens is the torque arm it puts way too much stress on the pinion gear and causes most of the failures, hence why your dad doesn't have any problems.
