  • need to replace the ELKY rear end

WMCC DENNIS asked me to post this for him.

the spider gears are sloppy and are making noise in the ELKY's rear end. I was wondering if any one has a full set of gears, carrier, etc.

    the Facts :

1970 GM 10 bolt 7.625" with 3:08 gear ratio. NOT a posi... I would put in a 3:42 or a 3:73 if someone had one for sale.

I need the spider gears and carrier, and ring and pinion.

If no one has one, where would be the best place to buy this stuff.

I would as think of putting in a posi if available.

Thank you in advance guys, Dennis

Not required...a early 70s 10 will be more than strong enough.

Just saw one last week on craigslist over here...3.42 gears non-posi for $150.

I'll see if I can't run it down...but craigslist usually has a couple out there.

        Yeah.

        But a 12-bolt is better.

Yeah but he doesn't need it for what he does with that car. 10-bolt will be more than adequate and these 10-bolts from the 70's are far superior to the ones you younger guys put up with in your 3rd and 4th gens.

            FAR superior.

A 2nd gen 10 bolt (with the RWD) can easily handle 600+torque with very few mods...800 torque with some effort...

Which is exactly what OT needs...lol...someday....

This is my Slow and easy car. I do not pull hole shots take off fast with this old girl.
I do, how ever, want to light up the tires during a parade or cruze in, once in a while.
I found a sale on an EATON Posi for $379.00 on "gears are us .com".

But I do not HAVE to have a posi...
