I just recently put a 1972 350 in my 1988 Camaro and I used the factory motor mounts. The only thing I did was get an oil pan for a 3rd gen from Jeg's and it is made by Moroso. Thats really weird that you're having this much trouble. When I put mine in I didnt have any trouble.- 1988 Camaro IROC-Z

I thought 3rd gens would be a cinch. Hmm.Originally posted by TB2 View PostYea, the motor's not your problem. Any smallblock will fit. Are you using the motor mounts that came from your car, or something else? What Tranny are you using? Where are the Motor mount cups in relation to the mounts? Can you post a pic?
By the way, I love your third gen.

i can get the engine in the car but on the original mounts it sits to high and when you bolt in the transmmision and put on the crossmember the engine sit on an angle backwards and the fan doesent line up right. with the mounts that i made it sits lower and lines up better but i cant get it straight it sits in the car crooked. if you are standing in front of the car looking at the engine the right side of the engine sit to far forward and if you push that side back there is no place to drill a new hole because you cant get it all the way past the hole that is already there. i will try to get more pics soon.

are your motor mounts you made two pieces or one? if they are two pieces then you could just weld the bottom half of the mount to the frame and then bolt the top half in when you put the motor in. that way you can move your mount back to the postion you need it to be without drilling any new holes.- 1988 Camaro IROC-Z

I have put lots of v8 into 3rd gens without an issue.
Guessing it has something to do with the mounts.
If I can get a 403 olds engine into an 84 camaro that used to be a v6, I bet you can get yours in too.
I would examine the mounts.Currently Owned F-Bodies

the mounts that i made are two peices the bottom half is 1 1/2 inches by 4 inches tube stock steel and the top half is a motor mount the was on some car out of the 60's and it is about a 1/2 inch thick and one bolt bolts in the middle of it to bolt to the steel. i will get more pics when i can.

I don't care if you used a 1958 283 out of a vette, a 305 out of a 82 chevy truck, a 350 out of a 1995 suburban or an 1975 305 out of a camaro. If its a Chevy Small Block Gen I or II they all should have the same motor mount holes and brackets and drop right in. As previously stated your motor isn't your problem. I have seen 2 sets of holes in the framing from the factory for V6 & V8 mounts before. Is it possible you have the bottom half of the mounts in the wrong set of holes? Also, are the factory brackets that you are talking about off your original motor? Did you change anything else? Somethings not right and after 5 motors its not the motors. Something is wrong with your brackets or frame or something. Most factory oil pans off different vehicles should even drop in. If it were me, I'd get the motor out of there and closely examine things.

I agree I think the problem lies in the motor mounts. Go to the parts store and buy motor mounts for an 1983 Z28 with a 305 HO. Make sure to get both halves the halve for the engine(stamped steel) and the ones that for the k-member the actual rubberized mount.Originally posted by Orange Terror View PostI don't care if you used a 1958 283 out of a vette, a 305 out of a 82 chevy truck, a 350 out of a 1995 suburban or an 1975 305 out of a camaro. when i bought the car there was no engine but the mounts that were bolted to the frame are the right ones the factory brackets i got on the 305 when i bought it i took them to performance auto parts in charlotte and they told me that they were the right ones for my car but it did not want to work. and for the two sets of holes on the frame the only ones i was able to find are the ones that the original frame mounts were bolted in when i got the car.

i tried to get the mounts that bolt to the engine (the top half) and no auto parts store around me sell them they told me to go to a junk yard and none of the junk yards will take off the mounts unless you buy the engine to.
i tried aotozone, carquest, performance trying to buy those mounts.
the only ones i can buy are the ones that bolt to the frame and i have to sets of those and they are both from camaros and both wont let the engine fit.
