  • 3rd gen v8

    hello
i am having alot of trouble with getting an engine to fit right in my 1983 Z28 it was originally a v8 but i cant get a smallblock v8 to fit and line up in my engine bay. so i am looking for a v8 that was originally in a 3rd gen camaro. if anyone has one that they would sell then let me know. i would like it to be running or close to running. i am also going to be selling a built 283 that needs new valve covers and thats all and i might sell a 200 m automatic tranny.
    thank you

What do you mean it doesn't line up?

all the engines i have tried are the older style so they sit to tall and sit back on an angle if the tranny is hooked up i even made my own mount to where the oil pans are about a half an inch from the engine cradle and they are still to tall and the top of the fan sits about 3 inches over the radiator so i am going to try a newer style engine because i have been told many times that they sit shorter. and one from a 3rd gen has to fit in my 1983 Z28. hopefully this helps you understand if not let me know
      thank you

A Gen I smallblock is a Gen I smallblock, or at least everything should be the same.

That's weird you're having issues, as a normal small block V8 should fit fine.

LOL....you just need an F-body oil pan I'm betting. Any small block V8 will drop into these cars provided you are using the proper parts.

Yea, the motor's not your problem. Any smallblock will fit. Are you using the motor mounts that came from your car, or something else? What Tranny are you using? Where are the Motor mount cups in relation to the mounts? Can you post a pic?

you shouldnt have a problem if you use f-body oil pan, and the stock mounts or mounts that are made for that car. make sure you have the correct parts.......

I put a 350 out of a 89 truck and had no problem, every worked awesomely, EVERYTHING from the 350 was from the truck, no fbody parts(sept for the tranny)

the first two are the mounts that came in my car out of the factory. the rest of the pics are of the mounts i made and they are in the car now with the engine on them and the last two show the clearance of the oil pan
