  • Any suggestions for engine rebuilds kits?

So I am looking around for an engine rebuild kit for this SBC 355 I have now. Would I be using the kit for a SBC 350? What is a fair price? Are there any brands I should stay away from? Any ones that you would suggest? Do one of our site sponsors have rebuild kits?

    Would one of these work?

I live in the Detroit area, are there any good shops that will clean it up for me? It has been sitting oustide on its stand for a while now so it is kind of rusty. Also, what should be involved with that? Acid dipping the motor? Anything else to get it pretty?

Oh and while I'm at it, where can I buy the rear axle seals for a 4th Gen posi rear?

    Don't buy anything yet.

First make sure it really is a .010 overbore 350 (to get to a 355).

Don't necessarily believe what everyone says.

Which means take it all apart, and take the block to be machined/honed/tanked, whatever you want to do to it.

If they need to go to a .020 overbore, that changes what you need.

This isn't about "making it pretty"...this is about making sure it will actually run for extended periods of time when reassembled.

    Pretty comes later.

And there are a bazillion machine shop places around here that can do whatever you want...there's even a few guys on the board that can do it too.

And Jegs or Summit can provide whatever part you're looking for.

Okay, I will do that. Who on the board has a machine shop and can help me get this block into ship shape and how what should I expect to spend for it to be tanked, honed, and machined if necessary?

We carry a variety of Eagle kits that include crankshaft, connecting rods, pistons, and bearings. They start at $699.99 and can be ordered in .020, .030 and .040 pistons.

We can beat Summit and Jegs on a majortiy of parts. We are master warehouse distributer for most companies, and are not just a drop ship/mail order business. We can provide you with parts, installation and technical services.
