    Well its all apart besides the crank, pistons ect. Cam is out. Actually my brother in law took it to have it sized up and it was "too small for him" So he did order a new cam. They told him to get a 2500 stall to match it well.

    high volume oil pump has been ordered, as well as a whole new gasket kit.
    There were no #'s on the oil pump that was in there...so were not taking any chances. It had the stock intake and carb on it. Were using the one off my Nephews 350. Hes got an edelbrock one on there as well as a matching carb.
    It had the stock water pump on it also.
    I so cant wait to hear this thing fire up!

    Thanks again for all your help.....its been VERY useful info!

      Ah, y'know, sometimes history just doesn't want to be found.

      Keep us updated...sounds like you're going the right way...I do have to admit that I am jealous...driving a big torque big block is a religous experience...

          ok Jeff here you go......
          The heads have H301 on them.
          Also have 7M5 stammped on the front of the heads.
          And theres also 295 stammped them.

          My brother in law bought an ISKY racing cam.
          485 lift 280 duration 2500-5800.
          Thats why hes looking for a 2500 stall.

          Thanks again Jeff.
          Let me know what you find on thoes heads.

            Heads appear to be the matching GM heads.

            7M5 = 1972 455 250hp; 2.11 intake 1.77 exhaust with 114 CC

            H301 = date code; August 30, 1971 (very early 1972 motor)

            295 = partial casting ID number

            Looks like you have a winner there...won't take much to make that one a thumper.

            As an idle thought, they did put YC code motors in GTOs too, but with a different cam (250 hp).

            A GTO restorer would likely pay quite a bit of coin for this one as early a build as it is...

            At least one example on eBay:

            Good luck, man! Keep us in the loop!
