Its a YC code so 220hp.
Motor is brand new inside! Were going to put a new gasket kit on the motor.
Its already got a double timing gear set. Heads need a little work. We need to pop the timing cover off to see what kind of cam its got.

Basically just needs to be cleaned up, new oil pan, new intake and carb, and all new gaskets. Were going to put it on the motor stand tomorrow. Then we can take off the heads, and take off the oil pan. Then we can really see what we have.

Any one have all the torque specs? or know where I can get them?

455s make excellent power. but if theres one thing i can advise you on the swap, dont skimp on the cooling! 455 runs hot! make sure you keep the temps down with a good radiator and maybe even an electric fan.

        1972 YC code stock 455s have 220 hp @ 3600 rpms and 350 ft lbs torque @ 2400 rpms...at a paltry 8.2 compression ratio.

They are a sleeping giant dying to be woken up.

        Great find...again, you stole it...

EDIT: As Joel said, they do run hot, but that was primarily due to the factory retarded timing...properly set the timing and you'll gain 30 hp and should eliminate the heat issue.

O.K., I did a bit of looking around, and didn't find much.

This is what I do know...

CWC is a company that makes standard cam "blanks" that aftermarket companies (Comp, Crane, Edelbrock, etc.) then machine to their specs.

K-9 I could find no reference to, except that many of the aftermarket cam companies (as well as GM in it's stock form) designate the "K" code for a 455 HO application (of slightly varying flavors, but comparable).

I could find nothing for the 3641, with the exception that Edelbrock is the only one I could find that uses a four digit part number.

If you can find any other numbers, I can try to run 'em down, but my best guess would be that you have a aftermarket HO cam in there, which in stock form was 212/225 deg duration and a .415/413 lift and a 112 degree LSA.

Regardless, you can part that motor out for 3x more than you paid for it.

                              WOW...thx alot!
Looks like the heads have all been gone through also.

Ordered a new cam with a larger lift. Now we need to try to find a 2500 stall.
Its got a 350 turbo in it now thats been all rebuilt.

                              Any ideas on a stall?

Actually, I'd say get the motor running and maybe check it out before you do anything. Maybe somebody spent big $$$ on a previous rebuild. Might only need freshening. Worst case, you have a baseline from where you started.

Best case, you find out somebody was running a HO cam with a 9.7 - 10.0 compression ratio...killer street combo...nobody would hear you coming until you blew their doors off.

Look for indicators...check the timing...if it's set right (i.e. NOT factory), that should be a tell-tale that there may be a bit more to it than meets the eye...should be 13-15 degrees at a 650-700 rpm idle. Then we can check total timing and vacuum advance and see what the ol' girl really has.

But I don't think I'd take her totally apart and start replacing stuff before seeing where she sits now...you may not need too...check for high $$$ rebuild components...oil pump...water pump...what is the code on the heads? 7X? Find some codes and I can run those. Roller rockers (not likely, but hey...)? What is the piston contour? Flat top? Dished? If they spent good money on the externals, chances are they spent good money on internals.

You want to go the full yard, get the heads CC'd.

For a stall, 2500 is right for a street application...but you'll still want to find out where the motor is (and where you want it to be) before deciding that.

                                Just my .02...o.k...maybe .05...lol...
