Was just on their website reading up on it. Training is 5 days a week for 20 to 22 weeks. Get up at 5am, lights out at 10pm. You get to go home from Friday evening and have to report back to training by Sunday afternoon. I was surprised there wasn't a law degree required. I'm not going to lie - I've always wanted to go into police or military.. but let's face it, at my weight and level of being out of shape I wouldn't survive.

Most trooper level positions dont require a degree or ask for an associates. With my degree I would be a good fit for a LT or SGT. I could do the physical part but no way in hell would I want to deal with some of the BS they deal with.

      Dead infants? no thanks.

If your the kind of person that can deal with damn near anything....damn good opportunity.

I'm with Brian. I would love to do the job, but at my age and state of fatness, don't think I could survive another stint in boot camp.

Sent off the app for the civil service exam, I'll keep everyone posted on progress. I don't know how well I'll do in boot camp again, but only one way to find out, and I'm fed up with my current situation. I hope I make the cut!

took the civil service exam back in the fall in lansing and did pretty well on it. I was trying to go for the Conservation Officer position but in the process I got hired at a different department so I dropped out of the process. I didn't even want to do MSP, if I wanted to be like the military I would have enlisted. . . . just use your judgement and common sense and you will do fine on the exam

Thanks. I think the paramilitary nature of MSP is what is drawing me to it, I really miss my time in the Army, and I think I would do well in the same type of environment. Maybe I'll get picked up by another department, maybe I won't, either way, I'm actively pursuing the job I want now, and hopefully I make it.

I did the "student trooper program" back when I was 17. Basically a week of going through what cadets would go through during their time their. It was a great experience and I haven't ruled out applying for it once I am old enough.

Definitely seems to be an intense experience.

When I worked at the MSP training academy i talked to a few individuals about the training/boot camp portion that had come out of the Army. They mainly said they would rather do the Army bootcamp over. I guess the MSP training has heightened requirements. But the hardest part was the mentality. You can quit whenever you want. There is nobody keeping you there. I was thinking about applying, but it is currently not in my career path. But good luck to all those who apply. A very prestigious opportunity.

I think you're right. Army BCT is set up to help the Soldier succeed. If you fail a test, you take it again. If you fail it again, you "recycle" into another unit to go through training again, and you test again. If you fail the 3rd time, you test a 4th time. If you can't pass it the 4th time, you are about 5 kinds of stupid, and they kick you out for "failure to adapt". I've never seen anyone fail the 2nd test.

I'm rather pessimistic about getting picked up by MSP, because I sent in my application so late (usually takes 3 weeks just to schedule the Civil Service Exam, then they have 30 days to send results, make initial selections, schedule interviews, etc.. After the interview, they'll decide whether they want you or not, they'll offer a conditional offer of employment, you take the MCOLES physical fitness test, medical exam, drug test, final interview, then they make the final job offer, which places you in the MSP Academy. That seems like an awful lot of steps to be completed before October 28th, considering it takes 3 weeks to schedule CSE, 3 weeks for prints to come back, at least 2 weeks from CSE to get in for PFT and initial interview, then medical, board interview, psych, and final employment offer. . .

I should have applied months ago.

Nick, I've got a buddy in recruiting and they are making sure everything gets done in time. You'll be fine, time-wise
