I am terrified to have someone paint pewter and it not match the rest of my car. Lol I always hear about how impossible pewter is to match.

I had heard the same horror stories about Chevy's Rally Red, but I had MasterWorks Automotive paint my SS hood for me, and they were spot-on with the match.

Besides, all the street denizens will be so intimidated by your badass WS6 T/A that they will never notice whether it's a perfect match or not! Seriously, 99% of the time, only a car owner will see his own car's paint mismatch -- no one else can see it. Have faith, be bold, and enjoy having a WS6 hood on your 'Bird!

MasterWorks is on Stephenson Highway just south of 14 Mile. bri2203 works there. Send him a PM and see about getting a quote. Or check with mcalus -- he's a little farther, but maybe a little less expensive. He's done a good color match for me as well on my rear bumper cover.

Any way you go with painting you should always blend. This being a hood it would be smart to blend the fenders and get the bumper resprayed as well.

That was clearly panel painted. You won't see many colors that will hit being panel painted.

I bought a Ram Air hood that I and got painted Silver, I am a real stickler about my car and told the Body Shop I was not going to be taking the car back until it matched perfectly. Needless to say I am extremely happy with how it came out and changed the look of my car!

Before I really get a quote, what is a decent range to expect on get the hood painted and blended. I assumed stripping the black will cost a bit too.

The black doesn't need to be stripped.

If you want to stay economical, you could get by with taping off the underside and just have the top exterior surface sprayed. If you really want to get fancy, tape off the black areas in your design of choice, and you can have hood stripes or contrasting scoops at no extra charge!

My hood was panel painted with no blending, and it turned out great. Either I got lucky, or MasterWorks has a really great paint guy doing the adjustments to the paint tint. You might want to ask Angie FireBirdGirl02 where she had her car done and who was the painter, since they have proven they have great expertise with silver WS6 hoods, which are at least as notorious for matching as pewter.

Bottom line is, you can wait until the cows come home to find a pewter hood. What are the chances it won't need any paint work due to stone chips, etc? (As background, I happened to buy a Rally Red SS hood for my car, and it was just down the road in St. Clair Shores. Although the underside was still glossy and in great shape, the exterior surface paint was ruined by stone chips and bird droppings, so I still had to put money into paint.)

You can buy a new car takeoff hood from New Jersey for almost $2000, and then spend probably $500 on shipping -- hopefully no one will damage it in transit.

Or, you can buy a really nice black hood locally for a good price, and enjoy it practically immediately, for a cost that's less than any other alternative.

If you really want to go OEM WS6, you're likely not going to find a better or cheaper opportunity. Go for it! You'll love it, and your car deserves it! I'm really happy that I took the plunge on the SS hood for my car, I'm sure you'll enjoy the WS6 look on yours!
