Michelle, how much are you thinking, cash-wise? Interested, but I don't really have rims and tires worth trading.Nick H.

Been there, done that -- it's a tough situation to be in.
I had a factory Camaro SS hood with similar damage, and it was a real tough sell -- I don't think I even got $250 for it because it needed the corner repairs and a full repaint.
I may be picking up an LT1 Formy soon for a daily driver, so I'll give you what you paid for it -- $300 -- cash on the barrelhead, so that you can expedite that money down to your friend.

If for some reason Kevin passes it up, I'd be willing to offer the same price.West Michigan Pontiac Club

Well, that won't cover her rent unfortunately. I'm going to help her out as much as I can, but that doesn't mean I should have to give the hood away either. I paid $300 plus a set of taillights, so technically I paid about $450. I'm willing to take the best offer over that....
I've had a couple people ask me who my landlord is, I need to clarify that *I* am not the one who is facing eviction. My friend Amber is and she lives in Kentucky (she's from MI though). I'm going to be wiring the money to her via Western Union. I did find out she hasn't gotten an eviction notice yet, so the urgency is still there but she didn't know her landlord has to go through the legal court process to evict her, and that any agencies that may be able to help her can't really do anything until she has that eviction notice. So she has some time yet, I thought she had the eviction notice already and no funds were available. I'm going to talk to her landlord and see if I can make arrangements with him, long shot I know but I figure maybe the guy has a heart
*Edit* - I just got a message from her and her fiance is willing to work off some of rent supposedly, so I may be pulling this off here soon since I won't have to sell it (I have other stuff I can sell at my yard sale). Also she isn't giving me her landlord's # so I'm not able to talk to him to get proof of the amount she owes. So I'm treading carefully from here... didn't know this last night. :/Last edited by mbcargirl; June 4th, 2013, 01:20 PM.

Fair enough, but when you need "cash fast" you sometimes have to settle for what you know you can get, not what you hope to get.
Sounds like it might work out that you can keep the hood, that's great. Hope it all works out.West Michigan Pontiac Club

That's a far cry from the $750 you told me you wanted for it. . .Originally posted by mbcargirl View PostWell, that won't cover her rent unfortunately. To be completely honest here, it's a damaged hood, and while it is cool that it was hanging on the wall at SLP, the fact that it would need some fiberglass and lots of paint work detracts from that. If it were mint, I could see paying the extra money. The fact that its damaged, your price is a bit high, IMO. I've seen these go for $350 and under, in good physical condition, just needing a repaint. The fiberglass work is going to cost more than paint, and odds are, it won't ever be "perfect" IMO.
Best of luck, hope you get what you want for it, but if you ever decide to sell it for a more reasonable price, you'll have no trouble moving it on this site.Nick H.

That's perfectly fine Nick, but I don't want it to go to someone who's just going to completely repaint it and install it on their car & completely ruin the originality and collector value of it. Maybe you don't understand where I'm coming from but yes, I agree $750 is a bit high, but at the same time I knew I would get lowballed of course so a higher asking price eventually gets brought down to something fair. Either way this isn't the only place I can try to sell it. This isn't the same as a USED, INSTALLED hood. Yes it has some fiberglass issues but to a collector this is something of value & if nobody here wants it, ok, that's perfectly fine LOL
. I'm just going to keep it and appreciate it for what it is instead of getting hassled & lowballed. I want to help my friend but I have other stuff I could sell, no big deal. I don't have to sell the hood for the price I paid, you know that right? Have a nice day...

Nobody said you had to sell it for what you paid for it, but starting negotiations at $750 with me, and telling the general public you'll take any offer over $450, I feel like you were trying to take advantage. Seems shady.
Also, it's only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. You can't dictate what happens to it after you sell it, because at that point, it no longer belongs to you. If a collector buys it, fantastic, more power to them. If someone else buys it, fixes it, and mounts it on a car, great, more power to them. It's a hood, not a rare piece of automotive history that will never be recreated. It was made with the same molds as any other SLP ram air hood, painted using the same tools and materials as every other hood, the only difference, someone mounted a set of hooks to the back of this one, and called it "art".
Just my personal opinion, I'm not trying to attack you or anything.Nick H.

Collectors item?
Its a Hood that hung on the wall, nothing more nothing less. It has no collector value. and any it may have had is long gone because on the damage. IMHO if you gave $450 for this hood you got suckered.Western Michigan Camaro Club ~ President

I just suggested a price based on what I've seen others listed for. I'm not out to scam anyone, but you are free to feel however you'd like, that's your right. Everyone will always try to negotiate a price down, and not everyone dismisses it as "just another" Ram Air hood. If you don't want to buy it, that's perfectly fine, but DO NOT come in here and start something, there is absolutely nothing wrong with me trying to get as much for it as I can. That's what most sellers do. No matter what the price is, people will offer low trying to get a good deal. I got a good deal on it (by the way WMCC Gary, if you re-read what I posted I paid $300. I also had a spare set of LT1 taillights that I didn't need so I decided to include them. Not because I had to, but because Dave (the person I bought the hood from) could use them. A quick craigslist search resulted in a few of the same sets going for between $100 and $200 depending on condition, so I just went in the middle with $150, it wasn't a set price, it's about what they were worth. The need to nit pick is really childish, and honestly I doubt I'm going to bother with this place anymore. I try to sell something just to help my friend out, and now this? Nick, I also told you that you were free to make an offer and you didn't, so I just threw a # at you because I knew that # would be lowballed. I'm not going to tolerate being called a scammer (basically) because that is far from the truth. I'm not that type of person. I'm the only person my friend knows that is actually TRYING to help her. Her family turned her back on her (don't know why, not my business), her other friends aren't willing to help (these friends all live in Kentucky, mind you) and I spoke up because I've been in her shoes & I know the stress she's going through. Yeah, I must be such a bad person..... Y'all are something, really something. Have a nice day.
A Mod can lock this and delete it, I've got better stuff to do than worry about someone elses opinion on a forum.

Sorry this thread went the direction it did - but you have to understand from our point of view how it comes across. What everyone saw was that you bought the hood for a good deal and a little while later are throwing out $750 as the starting price to sell the hood. We're a family here, so knowing you paid $300 + a set of LT1 taillights and then turn around and throw a $300 profit onto the starting price of the hood it sounds like you're just trying to flip it and take advantage of the fact that you got a good deal by making a nice profit on a hood.
If I sold a set of rims on here for $100 and then said buyer turns around a few weeks later and lists them here for $400, I'd be pissed and offended.
This applies to everyone who sells things on our site -- there's a handful of members who aim sky high when pricing their parts because they expect to be low balled. While no doubt someone is going to try to haggle the price with you, if you aim so sky high that it's flat out ridiculous then it gives people a very sour taste like you're trying to take advantage of the members of the site.
For example - when I post stuff for sale on this site, I post it with a discounted price (my "lowest" price I'd be willing to go) which is giving the members of the site a good deal and helping me get rid of something I don't need anymore. I post a higher price on CamaroZ28, Craigslist, LS1Tech, etc because they're outsiders, but here -- we're family, and I'm not trying to make a big profit off our members.
Either way -- it's great that you were trying to help your friend, but it *appeared* it was at the expense of the members here. If you feel like our reaction was uncalled for, then feel free to move along. But otherwise I hope you understand from our point of view, as a close knit group, how it came across.
With that --
