  • 3rd Generation steering shaft upgrade!

Jon and I have a bunch of GM Astro Van steering shafts modified and painted, ready to bolt up to your third gen, firebird or camaro! These shafts are a popular mod to improve your car's steering. Eliminates the rag joint, and improves the slop in your steering wheel! See this thread for more details or just ask. You will have to slightly modify the bottom of your steering column shaft a tad, 30 second job.

$60 + shipping For you local guys Jon or I will be able to deliver or meet up.

How much more road noise do you get from these?

Survey says that the road noise is increased but not as bad as some say. I think the steering is a huge upgrade I can turn the radio up a notch.

For you fourth gen guys I'm doing more research but I'm almost sure these will work for you as we'll.

GLWS! Nice to see some local guys with the entrepreneurial spirit!

Can't say I've experienced what I'd call steering slop on my 4th Gen, and I've got 188K on the chassis. I'll be sure to check it out in April when the car comes out of storage.

Well you've got my attention, Darren ... so this is for a 3rd gen right? Do you have one of these in a car that I can turn the wheel on to feel how it is?

We can arrange that, your not far from me and I will bring one with me if you like! Soon to have one installed in Bri2203's car and I am sure he would let you check it out as well. I can put it back on my car as well and you can tell, but mine has no motor so it really wont help ya there but show you the install.

Get rid of that RAG joint!

Well the only problem here is that I need to freshen up the rest of the front end in my bird plus add a "wonderbar", so I'm not sure how much I'll really notice this mod anyways.

speaking from experience as i put one on my yukon( jeep shaft) same thing if not worse. theres isnt any drastic road noise, only thing is youll feel slight more road vibration in the column. i think its worth it considering i can turn on a dime and flip my truck with that shaft. i have no play whatsoever.

youll feel it, that rag joint does more harm than youd ever realize. even if you rebuild the front suspensoin it wont change the fact that the factory intermediate shaft is junk.

Your company's slogan should be "we modify shafts" I bet you would get a lot of calls.

                        3rd Generation steering shaft upgrade!

Got one for you Brian. Like Tyler is saying a jeep shaft does the same thing however by popular vote the GM astro van is a better route ever so slightly. Plus who wants a Chrysler product on their car?

So what needs to be done to the steering column to make this work then?
