  • How much is this worth?

I just did a 4.10 gear swap with my 10 bolt and built it up some to. It has less then 50 miles on it and makes no noise. The parts I installed where

Brand New SLP 4.10 gears Back lass set to .008
    Ratech Solid Pinion Spacer
    TA Brand Girdle
    ARP Stud kit
    New Axel and Pinion seals
    Redline Shockproof Heavy

Im thinking of upgrading to a 9 inch because I installing a monster clutch soon and Im worried it wont be as kind to the 10 bolt as the ls6 clutch has been.

Yeah the problem with 10 bolts is that anybody buying one is doing so because they can't afford to upgrade to a better rearend, so they are working on the cheap. And then the problem is that the 4.10's further weaken the 10 bolts i have been told due to several reasons. Idealy 3.73's are a good all around gear, but at least you have done the solid spacer and got rid of the crush sleeve, The rear end cover/girdle will help with the twisting that is a cause of failure., and the studs make for easy cover removal for servicing. As for a price i am not sure, but i do know that Scott Koresky(local rearend specialist) charges $650 to do a gear swap/install/setup like you just did to yours, but how much of that will be recouped when seling i am unsure. Brian is probably close, and your safe range should be $200-$400 locally depending on how desperate someone is. Who did the rearend install, and if yourself, how many have you done before? A reputable builder would help with the sale when folks are looking. You could just rock this rearend and buy the 9" and have it ready and waiting for when this one goes boom, or play nice and sell this one when the 9" shows up, as a good rearend will always be worth more than a trashed one.

I would pull this when the 9" shows up. clean it up and paint it, or POR15 it, and ask $400-450 obo.

My father Did the install hes been a diesel mech for 35years and has rebuilt alot of rears/tranmissions/engines so im not worried about the install he got the back lass set at .007-.008 which should be dead nuts. Ill prob just run it until I decide to order or build another rear if I could keep it in good condition and get 400 for it Id be happy.

Also I swapped from 3.73 to 4.10's Id rather have either 3.42's or 4.10's in an m6 then the 3.73 gears. The 3.73 gear makes you shift into 4th just a few miles an hour before the traps where as with the 3.42 you could got through in 3rd gear. I swaped to the 4.10's so I could have better use of 4th gear at the strip. When I get an aftermarket rear Ill go with 4.30 gears they should be perfect for my cars.
