FS: 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air Parts

Hey guys, I thought I'd post this up here just in case any of you have friends that need any of this. . .

I went over and cleaned out all of my Dad's car parts from Grandpa's barn, we've been storing some parts for Dad's previous project car over there, he had a pair of 4-door '57 Bel Air's that he was working on. . .

Here's what I have:
-4 doors (original parts, not repros or aftermarket) with glass (also original). One door has a cracked window, and one has a big dent in the outer skin (reparable), but the others are in great shape. They've been stored in a dry barn for about 20 years, so they are dirty, but in great shape. I think the front doors still have the hardware and door panels on them. . .

-Trunk Lid-BEAUTIFUL condition, it's in great shape. Even has the gold "V" piece still attached. No rust, it's an original part as well.

-2 rear bumpers-In great shape, VERY restorable. They still need to be cleaned off, I'm going to wash them off tomorrow to see how nice they are, but so far, the only rust I saw was on the brackets.

-1 Front Bumper-Same condition as rears

-Front Left Fender-Great shape, I have the entire assembly, includes headlight bucket, whatever chrome I have that goes to it, inner fender well, and even the original windshield washer fluid bottle. I believe the core support and lower radiator support are also still attached, but again, I'm not sure.

-Radiator-Pretty sure it's original. Looks great, still has original radiator cap. . .

-Fuel Tank-Very good shape, there's some surface rust on this, it's not 100%, but I'm pretty sure it's original.

-Rear Glass-Pretty sure this one is also an original 1957 window, PERFECT shape, no scratches or cracks, only thing I noticed is a decal on the top center of the window. I think it's from a speed shop or something, but again, you'll see in the pics I snap tomorrow.

If anyone has any idea of what these items go for, PLEASE let me know, I have no idea what to ask for these parts, but I was told that I can keep half of the proceeds from the sale of the parts. . . That's Mod money, and I could really use a few more go-fast goodies for my car.

I was thinking about trying a swap meet, but I was looking online at the prices of complete doors, and they are EXPENSIVE. Not originals, but reproductions. They go for about $700 each. I'm not sure what to ask for all of this stuff, I mean it's not in the best shape, there are some dents and dings, but for the most part, it's all rust-free.

Well, I talked to the owner of a local specialty shop who does restorations on classic cars, asking him if he might be interested in the parts. . . Then my Monte Carlo came into the conversation, and I mentioned that it wasn't finished, it needed a little paint work. . . Anyways, he's considering finishing the body and paint work on my Monte Carlo in exchange for the parts. He's going to stop by this weekend to see if he's interested in doing the work and taking the parts. I have seen this guy's work, he does AMAZING work. He just finished a 7-month frame-off restoration of a '68 Z28 a little while ago, I saw it, and it was flawless.

Anybody think this is a good trade? He's going to take care of all of the labor and materials. I'll probably be helping him, just because I can't stand other people working on my car. I know he does good work, I just want to make sure I'm there to see exactly what's going into it. . . Call me paranoid, but I'm the one who has to live with the car, not anyone else.

I already talked to Mom about it, she told me originally that I could have half of what I sold the parts for, but she's on board with this deal too, because she said she was just going to scrap them. . . Long story, I don't want to go into the details of it, but I agree with her reasons.


Anybody have any idea what these parts might be worth? I don't want to be "taken for a ride" because I don't know what this stuff is worth. . .

That's what I was thinking, especially parts that we were just going to scrap. It's not really too much body work, just paint. The fenders and hood have already been "cut in", so just the outer surfaces need to be painted.

Nick, who is doing the work? I would recommend you do more research. The body work and paint work for your car can be done for $500 (Approximately $100 a panel). I think some of those parts are easily worth more than that. I

Bate's Auto Body out in Clayton. They are the ones that did that custom chop-top Lincoln that we stopped and looked at a couple of years ago. . .

I'll probably sell them on Craigslist or something, I was talking to another friend, and he seems to think that with everything I have, I could make $3k EASILY on Ebay or something. . .

So if you want this guy to do work on your cars, I would recommend asking him to do both your firebird and the monte for the parts. Otherwise you could probably get close to $3K but it will take a year or so.

Now that would be worth it and a interesting trade. Your parts for the body work and complete paint on both your cars. Even if your parts are worth more that still is probably worth it bacuse it saves you a lot of time and energy and it gets both your cars done!

I'm probably just going to try to sell them outright. I could really use the money for some mods for the bird and to get my hands on a vehicle with better gas mileage. . . looking at a couple of used motorcycles.

Posted them on Craigslist last week, only got a couple of nibbles, nobody has called about them or come to see them.

Posted on Ebay today. Hopefully they'll sell!
