Win = Win for them. They charge a disposal fee and then sell the tire. Smart move on their part.

or you mean give them away free instead of paying someone to dispose of them..

Ben, if you can use the 235/55R16 Goodyeat Eagle GT HRs that I took off of my car, you can have them for free. Let me know if you want them.

I am not sure it is the smartest move on their part from a legal standpoint.

I am glad they are giving them away to people who probabaly NEED new tires(it bothers me when people drive on bald tires) but I know discount tire can not sell a tire that is more than 3 years old. I am sure many of the tires are over 5 years old and who knows what defects they had or if any of them were recalled.

I think it be smart to have them all sign a wavier "These are being given away as scrap no warrentees or guarentees"

This seems odd to me. I work for a dealership and we get people coming in there all the time asking if we can sell or if they can have our old tires. Our boss said if we got caught giving out old tires we could be fined a couple thousand dollars. I think its to do with some kind of safety issue, not sure tho. And also, our used/disposal tires get locked up til they are picked up by the disposal company.

definitely illegal as there are tire disposal laws that tire dealers must follow to dispose of tires properly.
