  • Cam Spring Puzzle

Can anyone tell the mfg and type of valve spring this is? Just curious. I wanted to throw a bid, but only reference is "LS motor". Not helpful.

UPDATE (1/22/09): These springs are now for sale. Looking for $55 shipped.

See the last post for specs.

I want to say it's a bee hive spring?

    Do you have the add?
Ask the guy to make sure.

The best thing to do is ask the guy what they are rated for or call Comp and see if they can tell you.

I was just talking to Steve yesterday and he said that the older 918 beehive springs had a blue stripe on them.

No problem - Steve was just telling me yesterday that the 918 springs that I bought do not have the blue stripe on them that he's used to seeing. He said he installed the same set of springs without the blue stripe onto a guy's car and he came back with a broken spring not too long after. Steve spoke to someone at Comp Cams and he acknowledged that they're having problems with the newer style 918's without the stripe. ...Which, of course, is the style I bought. Steve checked it all out and all his tests show the springs are all OK but still, knowledge of possible issues is always better than blissful ignorance.

correction B, the guy had the new 918's in it @1.800 and it came in with a broken spring. I put blue stripes in it and haven't had any problems. yours spec'd out ok so hopefully where all good.

Well, as my luck would have it, the springs don't fit. Seems they are too small at the seat to fit the ID (these are .825 ID and I need to find some that are over .860 ID). Meissen, if you could, could you throw this on the "For Sale" thread? I'm looking for $55 shipped, there are 16 springs. At 1.800" Installed height, they are at 125# seat pressure and their max lift is .510". Anyone working on the valvetrain for an LS1 might like these.

Needless to say, they've never been used, nor installed.
