  • For Sale OBDII Code Reader for GM (VPW)

I am selling my original VPW Code reader.

This will come with 2 cables and the interface to read and clear DTC's found on your 1996 and newer GM vehicle, and any other vehicles that support the VPW language.

    "Say WHAA??"
Got a Check Engine Soon Light? This will tell you what it means, and will shut it off, until you fix the problem.

The cables require a serial connection on your laptop, but you can purchase a Serial to USB adapter that is RS232 compliant, in case you have a new ritzy laptop.

The Interface is a raw board, but I will throw in a case that you can mod to your hearts desire to house the board.

Im asking $50 for the cables and interface. I'll include the software.
As said above, I'll throw in the case and serial port extention for your modding pleasure.

Paypal, Cash, and certified check are accepted.
    Thanks
    C

Do you know if it's v8-only, or is this v6 too? I've heard of people converting from OBDI to OBDII, this would be great software for my carPC

This is ANY Vehicle 1996 and Newer that supports the VPW protocol. Most of the VPW is GM, but others are supported as well. 3 Cyl, all the way up to V8's.

The attached file should help. Credit to Scantool.net

Yes, the reason for OBDII is that you don't have a "Chip to burn". Its all flash memory. So, if you have LS1EDIT or another powerful PCM editing tool, you can flash and reflash, save your stock programming etc.
Plus theres a whole lot more features that OBD I just doesnt have.

Its a bit harder for the home user now though. No more paperclip to jump the terminals, and count the blinks. Either you have access to a reader, or you rely on the Autozone guys to give you a correct read.

Im a do-it-myself guy, and have helped many of my co-workers with this tool. Its definitely a Tool, and worth having in your box.
Just remember that THIS tool does NOT have bi-directional capability. It's strictly Read the codes, and Monitor the sensors while your driving or letting the car idle to see what sensor's flaking out.

If anyone wants this thing, I would highly recommend buying it! I just bought a $1100 scanner from MacTools, and this thing does the exact same things. It's really cool to have when you start hearing noises and seeing warning lights. TrickyTransAm, let me know if you don't sell it, I can find a buyer for you.

I'd buy it in a heartbeat if it worked for my car.

              Thanks Man.

So far, I have 4 watchers, and bidders.

There's like an hour left, so if I don't sell it there, I'll try try again elsewhere.

Its a good deal, plus Im throwing in the case so you can mod extra switches, LED's and other electronic stuff onto it to make it even more user friendly if you wanted to.

I would buy it to use with my new laptop, but it doesn't have a serial port. Sorry!

Well, Ebay didn't work again.... big suprise.

I hate Ebay - ive had absolutely bad luck / bad deals there.

If anybody wants this reader, its $55.00.

It will work with newer laptops, but you'll need an RS232 serial to USB converter.

Sorry to hear it didn't work for ya, I usually have good success for ebay. Any case, still wish I had OBDII and I'd gladly take it off your hands lol.

Yeah, same here. My folks have OBDII on their cars, but we just shelled out big money for this scanner:
                        http://mactools.com/ProductDetails.aspx?ItemNum=ET3005
I like it because it also interfaces with my laptop, and it works with OBDI, so my car isn't left out in the cold. . lol If anyone wants me to hook this bad boy up to their ride, I will have it at the get-together with me. I can't do private meetings anymore, because Dad uses it almost everyday now.
