  • For Sale - 1982 Chevy Camaro Z28 Indy Pace Car With 38k Original Miles

This was emailed to me this morning and I thought I would pass it along.

FOR SALE -- 1982 CHEVY CAMARO Z28 INDY PACE CAR WITH 38K ORIGINAL MILES

    Greetings fellow Camaro enthusiast:
My name is Mike Gartland and I live in Lexington, KY. I’m looking to sell my 1982 Chevy Camaro Z28 Indy Pace Car, one of 6,360 made. I’m e-mailing you as a member of a Camaro club in the hopes that you will make members of your club (and others who may be interested in purchasing an awesome Z28) aware of my car. My Indy Pace Car is in near mint to mint original condition with 38k original miles. The car has been in my family since 1987, when my mother purchased it from the wife of her mechanic. At that time, the vehicle had 16,000 miles and change. I purchased the car from my mother in September 1992, at which time the car had 21,695 miles. In the past 15 years, I have put a little more than 16k miles on the car. Attached please find several photos of my Z28, which were taken on 4/21/07, a copy of the original window sticker (I have the original and it is still in pretty good shape) and a copy of my Kentucky title for the car. As you can see from the window sticker, my Indy Z28 is loaded. Everything mechanical on the vehicle is operational. The car has been tuned up once, in 1993, and runs like a champ. No problems whatsoever with this 305 cross-fire engine. The interior of the car is in very, very good to excellent condition. There are no rips or tears in any of the seats. As you may know, at the time that the 6,360 Indy Pace Cars were delivered to the Chevy dealers, the dealers had the option of not putting the 4 Indy decal stickers (one for each of the doors, the front wind shield and rear window) on the Indy Pace Cars. The dealer who took delivery of this car chose not to put the stickers on it. I have the four original Indy decal stickers and they are in perfect shape. At the time that the original owner purchased the vehicle, she purchased an extra set of original tires for the car. In 1993 or 1994, I put the duplicate set of tires on the car. This Z28 has never been driven in the snow, and has seen next to no rain. It has been garaged winters since it was new. My price is $10,900.00 or best offer for this gem of an 82 Indy Pace Car. I can be reached on my cell phone (859-420-8733) or home phone (859-523-5377) to answer an questions concerning the car. My e-mail address is m.gartland@insightbb.com. Please post my Z28 for sale on your club’s website, and forward this e-mail to any person who you think might be interested in purchasing the vehicle. Thank you for reading this e-mail and assisting me in selling my car.
    Best regards,
    Mike Gartland

Let us know if car ends up selling for 10K like they are asking.

Last year when I was trying to sell a Camaro all the people that stopped assumed you could get a mint condition, original low milage one for 5k.

So I am curious how much people are willing to pay for a mint condition one.

Low Mileage & Mint condition, I really wouldn't consider 82K exactly low mileage either, but I do agree that was pretty low for a car that old.

But these people were expecting 40K or so, and basically factory appearance and function. As if the car was sitting in a show room for 20 years.

So I do wonder how much that absolutely perfect 3rd gen would sell for.
Note: I am stressing the sell part, because people can place a car for whatever value they want, but it is only worth as much as you can sell it for.

I went to a auction in Hart Mi. a couple years back and there was a third gen. IROC/Z they auctioned that only had 642 miles on it. It sold for $18,500.00. Also I paid $10,000.00 for my 82 Indy Pace Car three years ago. That came with the documentation of being the only one sold by Berger.
