Because you make $500 a month. Period. End of story. I know you don't want to hear everyone's advice, but LISTEN to the people talking FROM EXPERIENCE. I'm 20, I have a $1000 credit card maxed out, and a $1100 Dell laptop to pay off. My insurance for my car is through my parent's plan. Every month I'm supposed to give my parents $120 or so, but I can't afford it and I can't even afford to give my parent's that money, so they end up having to foot my own insurance bill every single month. Trust me, it's humiliating and frustrating knowing your working your ass off and still not making enough money to survive in the real world. I work 20 hours a week, and I come home with $750 a month. Do you know how hard it is to pay off a debt with that amount of monthly income?

This is 100% true experience, not making ANY of this up. My Dell laptop, it's $1100 or so right now. When I bought it, it says "monthly low payment of $35 dollars" OH WOW! I CAN AFFORD THAT! That's what I thought. My mentality when I got it was that I would always pay a little more than the minimum payment amount, from what I heard that's a good practice and gets reflected by your credit score going up for paying more than the minimum balance. Whether it's true or not, not sure. Regardless, I do it. So, I get that bill for $35 and I paid $50. Sweet, paid 15 more than I had to. Then I get the invoice showing that I paid. My $50 had a $10 fee knocked off for whatever reason, so my $50 payment turned into $40. Then they charged fees and lord knows what, and that was for $20. My $50 payment turned into $20 payment. So, instead of owing $1100 I owe $1080 after putting $50 into it. See what I mean? That sucks! If I put $50 into it, I'd expect to see $50 less on the bill, but it doesn't work that way. That $35 monthly price only covers the interest and interest alone.

Honestly, Nick, if you can go to a dealer and they will tell you "You only have to pay $150 a month." and your parents will help you with insurance, then go for it. But if that car payment is more than $200, you're bound for disaster and bankruptcy.

OK everybody I think enough has been said. I think plenty of advice has been given to Nick. Some people just have to live and learn. So enough with telling him what he should do, lets move on. Or better yet CLOSE this thread. It seems to be doing nothing but pissing off the thread starter.

With that Good Luck Nick, Think about what everyone has said. They are only trying to look out for you. But you seem to be pretty stubborn. So go ahead, Live and Learn. Make the same mistake most of us have made. Do what you want, Ignore all of the advice. But don't come back here looking for sympathy when things get rough. Cause the only thing I can imagine your going to hear is "I told you so". So again, Good Luck Nick.

I talked to Nick today. I also took him around to some used car lots and let him hear it from the horses mouth. I think Nick will make the right choice now. Last he mentioned today was drive the Camaro. Fix it up as best he can and then sell it towards a new car. Also we talked about getting a starter credit card with a very low limit to get him building credit towards the car he wants. Relax guys. From here on out its up to Nick but I trust he will do the right thing.

P.S. We found some other cars at a questionable shop. They have a '98 Mustang Vert for $7K and also a 3rd Gen very clean IROCZ with a 30K mi 350 anf custom chrome 18"s for $5K. Jen offered the guy her Jimmy for it. He said he would consider it. Is that worth it? '99 GMC Jimmy SLE 4x4 fully loaded in good shape.

Nick, you know on this site we're all family, so we're just looking out for you. Definitely don't take offense to all the advice, we just don't want to see you get into a difficult position.

Just a note about wanting something fast. Look at the list I had previously posted. Prior to my motorcycle, the fastest thing I owned was my 4 banger Olds and 00 Xtreme. Both ran a 15.86 at the track. My first V8 real fast car was my 02 SS. It took me 11 years to finally buy a fast car. I've nearly lost my license twice even having "slow" vehicles from too many speeding tickets. It's just that much more tempting to speed when you have a fast vehicle.
