Oh yeah, and Alex, the "Old School" truck was sold by my dad to my brother in law 2 days ago for $1500. That dreams been killed also. I was also considering doing a LT1 swap in my car, but he sold my donor car a while back also. It seems that my mind hasn't been changed by myself as much as it seems. Other people force me to look for other means of accomplishing what I want, it seems. Just thought you ought to know.

Nick, honestly, to be blunt -- $500 a month is not enough to afford a Vette, Porsche, or much of anything for that matter. You may be able to get the CAR PAYMENT for $500 a month, but then you got insurance and gas. I'm not trying to burst your bubble, but get you back to reality. You're not going to be able to get anything that great for $500 a month. I make about $750, and I can't even handle my $200 payments with the rest of my "life expenses", there is absolutely no way you will afford a car payment, insurance, gas, food, and anything else on $500 a month. If you want a nice car, you need a full time job. It's a catch 22 and trust me I'm just as frustrated being in the same situation. I want more cash, but I need to graduate college to make the big $$$. I want money now, but I won't graduate for another 3 years if I'm lucky. I want to get out of college faster, but at the same time I don't want to devote my ENTIRE year to college because I want time to live my life, not be a total nerd in the books 24/7. It's the hardest time to go through because you're being pulled in 90 different directions, and it sucks, but trust me you do not want to do this. I regret getting my credit card and my Dell bill and not being able to pay it off all at once. If I could go back in time, I never would have financed anything because now I barely have any money at all to even take Angie out on a nice date.- Brian Meissen

Well Nick, since you seem bound and determined to do this regardless of the suggestions (and yes I agree with everyone else, great advice guys, he should be conservative and get something reliable and good on gas for $200 a month or less). I would recommend looking for a good clean LT1 car, or a late 3rd Gen in decent shape. keep in mind with no credit they are going to rape you on interest too. Personally if it was me I'd go buy a cobalt or something like that and still have the camaro for the weekends. Goodluck either way.

Nick. im going to have to agree with brian 100% on this one. if youronly making 500 a month after taxes you can not afford a car payment of anything above 230 bucks a month. with all the expenses you will have otherwise too, gas and insurance and tax on top of buyign a car, seriously don;t kill yourself. thats what i did last winter and im so glad thati could out of the vehicle and ended up only loosing 50 bucks but i sitll put 6k miles on it. just don;t do it. buy a decent car that looks nice with say 100k on it and drive it til you graduate then worry about a really nice car.
hell i work fulltime and i can only afford a 250 bucks a month. just b/c of insurance and gas. i work 40+ a week. and still won;t want to have a payment more then one weeks pay that way i know i can afford it. and have money left over.

Dude...go pick up a Michigan Auto and RV...there was a few cheap LT1 Camaros in there. There was one in OH for only $4K from a dealer and looked pretty decent from the pic. I didn't buy a vehicle that was more than $4K until after I was out of college and got married. Even then it was about $9K for a V6 Firebird. I didn't buy my first brand new vehicle until 2000 and that was an S10 Xtreme that I got some GM card earnings from my uncle and used the employee discount through work. Don't be in a rush to get yourself a new expensive vehicle that you can't afford. Nothing worse than not being able to make payments and having it get repoed and having your credit get screwed because of it.

After hearing everything you guys said before my last post, I did exactly what Wade suggested, and I went back to AutoTrader.com and changed my search to around $5k, and I looked for a SS, Z28, T/A, or Formula, and I found a few good deals, including a 98 Z28 with around 60k on the clock for less than $5k at a dealer that my old driver's ed teacher opened last year. . . I've wanted a LS1 for a while now, mostly because I don't want to have to deal with the ever so common OptiSpark problems. Plus, IMO, there is nothing sexier under the hood than a LS1. There are a few promising deals on LT1's with about 60k-80k on the clock for around that price. Thanks guys. I'll let you know what I get. Probably next week I'll have another F-Body in the driveway. This way, I won't feel bad about driving the V6 in the winter.Nick H.

Nick if your set on getting a new car, I'll go to the local dealers with you. I think talking to them would be more influential than our advice. If you want to test drive you'll need someone with sufficient credit.
If this is what you really want I'm behind you. Peace bro

This is what I really want. I need a different car, if for no other reason than to get the 6er off the road long enough to fix it up and get it running smoothly. I want to be able to go to the track and not feel bad about having a crappy looking car that only runs 18's in the 1/4 all day long. I've talked this over with my dad, and even he stands behind me. Just so you guys know, I am thinking about fixing my car up and selling it this spring, if I have to to pay off the new car. People buy and sell nice cars everyday, why should I not have the ability to? I'm willing to work hard for it, I'm willing to take good care of it, why don't I deserve this? As far as insurance goes, my parents are willing to let me put the new car on their insurance so I don't have to pay an arm and a leg for it. I can get full coverage under their policy for the price I would pay for PLPD under my own name. I'm determined to do this. If no other way then to save up the cash over the next few months, sell my car, and go buy a clean LT1 Z28, SS, T/A, or Formy.Nick H.

I've been in the car bidz for the last 13yrs. I hate to say it Nick, but incase you don't know this... In order for you to get a loan with no credit you will need to have some $$$ down. You could use your camaro. Now for the big one,you have to make a min. of around $1200 a month. The banks that will give you a chance are going to charge you a shit load of interest which will make your payment sky high, and they won't do any cars that are older than 2001 with under a certain amount of milage.
The best thing is to get a co-signer if possible. Maybe a buy here pay here lot will do something but make sure and take their cars to a mechanic that you trust. Sorry to burst your bubble.
The first Gen started it all!!!

Screw it. I don't want any more advice. Everyone is trying to talk me out of this, and I NEED A NEW CAR. My car has rust holes all over the place. Oh, and Dino, how is a car lot going to charge me $1200+ a month on a $3k-$4k car? Ben and I are going to look at a couple of different car lots and see what we can come up with.Nick H.

why don;t u look at getting something like a 99 grand prix gtp. there real quick for that they are and are only like 6-7k for a nice one with liek 80k miles on them

Sorry, Nick, but I'll be blunt.Originally posted by 06camarodudeScrew it. I don't want any more advice. Everyone is trying to talk me out of this, and I NEED A NEW CAR. You are just about to make the biggest mistake of your life right now. (And Dino is saying you need to be making $1200 a month before a dealer will finance you.)
You're 18 years old, first year in college, and working part time. If you start living beyond your means now, you'll either be out of school and working two jobs, or filing bankrupcy within 2 years, at which point the bank gets the car back anyway.
Dude, slow down. Have a little patience. Yes, I know patience sucks, but it's what you should try to do right now.
Do you need a new car? No. You WANT a new car.
Do you need a fast car? No. You WANT a fast car.
Can you afford the car you want? No.
Can you afford the insurance on the car you want? No.
Do you even need a car right now? Probably not.
This is a recipe for disaster.
Oh, and stay as far away from a Corvette as you can. A $8000 Vette is a fixer-upper, regardless of what the owner/dealer will say, unless you're talking about a 75-78 that has 180 hp. And keep in mind that Vettes are fiberglass, and repairing fiberglass is going for $100 an inch right now.
Yeah, $100 an inch...no that's not painted.
You sound really frustrated and pissed off, but don't you find it ironic that you are the only person that thinks this is a good course to follow?
You're on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, and just Asked The Audience.

Good advice guys, wish you would have all been around when I was his age. I saw screw it, he'll find out the hard way, he obviously doesn't want to listen to any of us that have been there.
