  • Gonna be in the market for another F-Body soon... please keep an eye open.

    Hey All,

I will be selling my Camaro soon (as a roller), I have never been a huge fan of the early years of the third gen Camaro Sport Coupes, would like to have something with T-tops.. and would prefer to get a later year Camaro or Firebird/Trans am (85-92). I would like to find something that is in solid shape (no rust). the paint doesn't have to be perfect. but I WOULD prefer to find a 5 speed model , it's not a requirement.. but would prefer it.. also would like to get something with T-Tops. I guess I should mention I would like it to be a V8 as well. it doesn't have to be running, could even be a roller if it's a good enough of a deal. Interior doesn't have to be perfect, but obviously the nicer it is the better.

so I guess here are my requirements and wishlist..

    Requirements
    - 85-92 Camaro or Firebird/Trans Am (with ground effects)
    - No Rust / Solid Body
    - T-Tops
    - Clean Title (no salvage)

    Wish List
    - Decent Interior
    - 5spd / V8
    - Running

so please keep your eyes open for me, people on craigslist think that everything is made of gold.. the couple that I have found that seem like what I want have already been sold.. I would like to find something for $1500 or less if possible.. obviously that is flexible if its an awesome deal.

    Thanks!
    -Jeremy

on a side note* why are 4th gens in awesome shape so plentiful and cheap? really surprised by this!

found this one on craigslist.. about a 2 hour drive for me.. any specific questions I should ask? don't wanna drive all the way down to find out its junk..

all I know so far is that the car IS still available.. but haven't gotten any other responses back from him.

I'd ask him to elaborate on the rust, dents, and hood.

But other than the normal questions (how's it run, good oil pressure, mechanical concerns) there isn't much I more I can think of. I always struggle with how to answer "what questions you should ask.".............You have to remember the guy is trying to sell his car, so regardless what you ask his answer will probably always be postive. It's not until you get a true "hands on" look it that you can determine if he was being honest or not. I've driven 12-14 hours one-way just to turn back around, empty handed. I just chalk it up to, that's part of the hobby.

Awesome thanks! yea kinda figured with that.. the motor I'm not super concerned with because I have a 350 i'd be dropping it.. mostly concerned if it can make it all the way home haha.. but awesome.. at least I am on the right track.. didn't know if there were any firebird specific questions I could ask. when/if I go look at it.. anything specific I should checkout? I know the T-tops are an area of concern.. the underbody/floor boards

Yep the T-tops will almost always be suspect to leaking. The drivers side front boards are notorisious for having a hole in them (Foward left corner close to the firewall). Check the rear wheel-wells as well (these will be easier to catch). These cars are all seem to have some level of rust hidden behind the ground effects too. It's not easy to see this, but do you due-diligence in checking behind them where you can. (inside lower door lip, reach your hand up behind the dog leg area of the quarter panel).

Good luck, and keep us posted. $1200 seems like a fair price from what I can see in the pics.
