I would have suggested scheduling a court date to get the ticket reduced some. Most courts are not going to reduce a 30mph ticket to impeding traffic, but they could make it a 10 over instead of 30.

I think you are extremely stupid for driving 55 mph in a 25 zone! 10-15 over in a 25 is excusable but not 30. If I was the cop I would not give you a break.
We all have the urge to drive fast but do not drive like a jackass in construction, school zones, or 25 mph zones.

lol i had no idea how fast i was going, i just hit it for a few seconds. but the ticket says 16+, which is 140 and i think 3 pts? but im pretty sure he coulda put it up some more, so he already gave me a little break, if i were to try fighting it in court i think i woulda been screwed even worse, cuz he cut me some slack as it is, i think he knew i would just pay it since i wasnt arguing about it, i was actually in shock when he said 55 and he knew it lol. he basically called me an idiot and gave me what he thought i deserved. anyways, the 140 i had no problem paying, ive been saving my paychecks up rather than blowing it everywhere so i had about 850, didnt dent it too bad. as for the points, im gunna take the class n get em off, ill have 2 on my record anyways cuz of a bs no left turn ticket i got 2 months back, it was sposed to be $115 2 pts but i wrote a letter saying i never been up that way n didnt see the sign, it got bumped to 140 no pts 6 month prob. but now i get those points back. 2 pts wont hurt too much.

Way to make a judgement without knowing the full situation. Atleast Jake owned up to the fact that he made a mistake and paid the ticket... If you think 55 in a 25 is stupid, it's just as stupid to then try to fight it in court.

Just so you guys are clear the insurance laws have changed... Insurance companies are now notified when you get points on your license, now if they dont raise your insurance, well thats on them. When I got that rolling a stop sign ticket my aunt knew 4 days later that I had gotten it, because she was notified. Also on a side note, 2 POINTS is a BIG DEAL, that will raise your rates in a big way. Lastly, whatever the whole story and full situation is I agree with bri 55 in a 25 is just plain stupid no matter what the case is.

I will very strongly advise keeping it under control for a couple years, after 7 points, the state assesses a "Driver Responsibility Fee" of like $150 per year until the points come off your driving record. . . I got hit with it when I was 18 or 19 because I was a bit heavy in the right foot, but since then, I've been pretty responsible out on public roads.

If you want to go fast, take it to the drag strip or find an autocross event or something to allow you to do so legally. Cheaper to pay $60 for a tank of gas and $35 to get into the track than it is to pay $150 for a ticket, $150 for responsibility fee, court costs, lost wages (if you have to miss work to pay the ticket), etc. It's too expensive in the long run, the legal way can actually save you money.

Its always easier to just tell them. My dad told me that if I got a ticket I'd have to sell my car. Well I got a drag racing ticket and still kept the car

honestly i would keep the car unless you are looking for something different and just go get insurance on your own. but that is just me

right now i have it for trade for a lifted jeep. ive got a few offers today. 1. grand cherokee 5.9l 8 in lift (ugly). 2. 94 tahoe 350 4 in lift fresh paint too flashy. 3. 01 ram 5 in lift low miles beautiful... single cab :/... so ive declined them all and unless i get an offer of something i actually wanted, ill keep the car. and what i meant by 2 pts aint much is that its not 7 or something that can endanger me of having a license. most companies want a clean record but usually accept 4 pts tops. sure it can make my rates go up quite a bit but its not absolutely terrible

Unfortunately I was following behind him at the time and "looked to be gong fast" and was "right on his bumper". Even though I was a considerable distance back, and the cop jumped right out behind him in front of me without endangering anybody. There was loads of room and I wasn't riding his bumper as the officer suggested, but he ticked me for the same thing as well. I'm waiting for my court date ... because the cop didn't get me on radar, and I was NOT going anywhere near as fast as Jake. I most likely was speeding a little, but I wasn't gunned and the cop told me.

Guilty by association? I was driving behind him ... quite a ways I might add. Jake's got a pretty quick 'bird Also, for the record, we were not racing. It might sound like that, but we weren't. Just leaving school and he goosed it a little.

On average, a 2 point ticket is worth a 25% hike in the overall rates (meaning each vehicle covered). A lot of places, though, have a forgiveness of the first 2. If you investigate other insurance and decide to keep the car, be sure to be honest with the agent. It works out sometimes in your favor. 55 in a 25, this wasn't a residential zone, was it? That may make it tougher, considering the possibility of fatalities, given that speed, with yougins running around. Other than that, you may be able to find something affordable and will be able to keep your ride. You'll just have to save the fun for better choices and drag strips. Back some years ago, no insurance would touch me because I had 11 points with my '79 (what can I say, speed was everything until it was almost all taken away).. By the way, my shining moment of my "what the hell was I thinking" moment was when I tripled the speed limit on Telegraph and they wrote me for the full amount, could've taken the car and made me walk, but a ticket big enough to take 2 months of my salary, I guess, was enough.
