I tend to agree, but everyone has their opinions. I wouldn't want to deal with the issues coming from modding, de-modding, and then swapping the drivetrain.

Personally, I'd take half of what you're giving him and put it into the 'vert. $3k in mods can go a long way. I know the vert wasn't all you thought it'd be, but easy enough to put the top up when it's too hot or cold. I still love driving mine with the top up.

I have to agree with you guys, I'm sure I'll run into things from the swap, but how bad could they really be? As long as the drivetrain he gets is mechanically sound, dare I ask, what could go bad? Accessories are really the only thing that come to mind. We won't be trading until he gets everything completed, and he's meeting me halfway between Maryland and Michigan, so the car will HAVE to be driveable at the very least.

To me, the c5 is 10x better in looks than my camaro. I realized that rather than looking for a hugger orange car and spending nearly the same money as a c5, why not get the better car? I thought I'd like the convertible, but most of the time, the top stayed up.

Kevin, that red one is really nice. I emailed him about it. I guess one that is already together is better than a pieced together one.

So it's had a color change and a swapped engine, twice? It just leaves a lot of room for error. My big worry would be electrical. You never know what someone else has done to make things work.

I agree with that too. The color swap worries me slightly. Are you sure the car hasn't been wrecked? I'm a firm believer that it's never the same once it's apart. He wants to be rid of the car - do you really think he'll be methodical and surgical with the swap? You're now purchasing a car with an unknown history that you know has been worked extensively and with a drivetain that has an entirely different history.

Plus, as stated above. modern vehicles worry me too much with all the potential electrical gremlins.

I mean, it's just a big gamble in my eyes. On one hand, it could turn out to be a really sweet car (love the color and style, they look great!) and on the other hand it could turn into a huge money pit/thorn in your side.

Hey Conrad not to rain on your parade but I tend to agree with some of the replies. I just bought a C5 with only 14K on it. It was part of an estate collection. (See album posted here) The representative for the collection was a Corvette expert and we spoke about the C5 and the common problems. First I agree with your choice of a C5 vette. It is a great car and probably the best looking of all vettes (IMO). But I also have looked at several C5's and C5 Z06's and realize that several have been butchered. The costs of bringing a butchered Z06 back is substantial. As you may remember I would have considered your car had I been back in Michigan and IMO just looking at the ad for the Z06 and your car I'd think long and hard about the deal he is offering you. I wouldn't trade him even up for your Camaro. Again it is just my opinion but I'd rather have a good unmodified C5 to start with knowing what you can do with it. In any event no matter what you decide I wish you the best of luck.

Good on you man! Could've been a disaster... meeting him 1/2 way then finding out its a POS.

Mottos I try to adhere: find original owner cars... find stock or light mods... GO LOOK HARD AT THE CAR FIRST.

Honestly, was just thinking about those. I'll have to see if I can get them all off- the passenger rear one wouldn't come off from the bottom last time I tried, the bolt spun in place... they are very low mileage and I haven't had an issue with it. I'll get back to you on that once I start pulling them off. I'd prefer to sell them with the springs also.

Conrad - depending on my cash flow and your timing, I'd be interested in some of the suspension components. Also, would be really interested in seeing how your car rides with the sfc's and Strano's! Would give me insight as to what I want on my car.
